What exactly do you need help for ?
The RetroPie version appears at the top of the RetroPie-Setup script, whenever you start it.

I asked this a while ago. I was told the ability is in RetroArch but never found it.

I used a camera to take pictures of my monitor.

                RetroPie:

                Raspbian:
                https://somtips.com/how-to-record-desktop-screen-of-raspberry-pi-3b-raspbian/

This is only one of MANY ways available, but from what I can see it's available by the options menu's to record gameplay.

If you want your Pi to go full speed while you record it, you would be best to purchase a HDMI capture device instead.

Sorry I can't help with more precise information, I have only had my very first Pi for a week and not had time to use it for anything yet, hopefully someone with experience replies, I've been watching this thread so I know how to do it the best way myself.

@kingfrankbob Did you search the forums for "recording"? Doing so, I found this: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/18183/recording-gameplay-in-retropie-4-4-1

Maybe it helps you to get started. It has several links to other guides and threads.

I didn't know about capture devices and went with the Hauppauge HD PVR 2 device. Could be useful for other ideas too.

I did HP-UX for years but anymore anything Linux makes my hair turn grey and fall out. Sorry guys, I got my MCSE and really prefer Windows(r) now.

@Clyde Absolutely! I've owned a lot of Hauppauge stuff over the years so I'm expecting great things from this box.

I'll give my impressions when it shows up. I actually only want still pictures but what the heck.

Noice thanks but do you know how to do a 16 button controller. I will use 8 for joysticks and the other 8 for dpad/abxy and ten 2 more for start/select. I can make my joystick if you can find a way for those 8 buttons. Thanks if you can

@kingfrankbob Your last post doesn't seem to fit to this topic. Wrong thread?
