NeoGeo on a Pi Zero W?
-
I fancy making a stand-alone NeoGeo cab using RP - as I would like this to be as cheap as possible does the Zero W have enough grunt to play NG games without any slowdown? I am not after video previews or anything like that so it is purely about playability of the games...

I used to run NeoGeo emulator on a Pentium III 500 MhZ with 16 MB RAM. I want to believe you could but I cannot assure it will run in a proper way.

@chubsta your options :
- lr-fbneo : supposedly it doesn't run well enough for neogeo on pi0/pi1, or maybe by enabling frameskip and/or cyclone (however it seems cyclone breaks some neogeo games)
- pifba : supposedly it runs well on pi0/pi1, however it's really minimalistic (no shaders, no savestates, ...), i also suspect some neogeo games won't run because it's also using cyclone
- lr-fbalpha2012 : it didn't run neogeo games full speed on pi1, idk about pi0
- lr-mame2000/lr-mame2003 : maybe ?
Imho, you have a high risk of encountering issues, just to save 20 bucks on something that'll probably cost you several hundreds of bucks anyway. My advice : pick a pi3 or even a pi4, so you can use fancy shaders/overlay, reduce input lag with read-ahead, or whatever, picking a pi0 for anything that's not a handheld is always a bad idea.

@barbudreadmon yeah, think you are right, it was just a thought i had whilst planning what i needed to buy. will go for a 3bplus as at least i already have very good images so it should be an easy install
