Hello, I am new to the raspberry community but I recently bought a raspberry pi4 with the Cana kit and a128gig sd card. About a week ago I successfully installed Raspbian and retropie and was playing multiple games without a problem. A few days ago I tried to remove the blank out timer screen with some script I found online and after a reboot the device would not display anything. I decided to wipe the sd card clean and start from scratch. I did the exact same steps I did prior l. Raspbian works fine but went I got to install retropie I keep getting an error that binary sdl2 is unable to install and therefore will not install emulationstation or retroarch. If I set the platform for rpi2 in the retropie_packages.sh then all installs fine but I cant use emulationstation or retroarch. Not sure if this on me or if something changed in the download. Anything help would be appreciated. Thanks

@GreatWhite82 said in Raspberry Pi4 Retropie Setup Problem:

        binary sdl2

I did a fresh install on my Pi3 and did the usual "update all components" and I too have been getting "binary sdl2 is unable to install " errors.

RPI4 is not yet supported. If you are using the development branch don't expect stuff to work all the time - and currently binaries are being built for it etc.

Neither of you provided any information as agreed when registering and in the sticky topics

I understand they haven't made retropie for the 4 yet but as I said if you set the platform to 3 it will work and it did work for me about a week ago. As far as the rules, I read them and I'm not sure what other information you would like. I was trying to keep it short and not write a lengthy novel on my entire set up. Also being new to all this how bout you cut me some slack. Thanks

@GreatWhite82 No need for the attitude - I am simply informing that you should provide more information when requesting help.

I believe the issue @mat bumped into is related to sdl1 not sdl2 - which is being fixed now. The more information you provide the easier it is for us to help.

Can not advise on RPI4 without more information about set-up as to how you installed etc.

this actually has been solved, follow the steps exactly here, and you'll fix that SDL2 error. i had the same thing and this fixed it.
