I have installed dosbox and moved one game over to the folder. When I select dosbox from emulation station Icee set up or the game, the game is Oregon Trail.
When I select the game I see install or the regular exe file but when I select either one of but when I select either one of those the screen goes black and then I have to manually reboot the Raspberry Pi. No matter how long I sit and nothing happens.

The version of the game I am using is for dos.

I have exactly the same issue as described. I have a pixel/retropie setup. I can run dosbox, mount and play games successfully through command line however, when trying to open the same games via Retropie and emulationstation the screen goes black and I am forced to reboot the pi. Has anyone found a fix?

@neilclayt are you using a pi 4? If so, dosbox is not currently functional through retropie.

@quicksilver It’s a 3b+. Just span up a straight retropie image and dosbox is working as expected could pixel be causing the problem, potential issue being caused by tty consoles?

@neilclayt RetroPie doesn't support running in a desktop (pixel) session on the Pi. Most likely this is the cause of your dosbox issue. You have to exit the desktop session and start EmulationStation from the console - or just have EmulationStation start up by default and install Pixel separately as a port - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FAQ/#where-did-the-desktop-go.
