I have debated on moving from 2003 to 2010, how well do the cheats work? Are they similar to 2003? Some old threads here mention it isn't supported or there are some processes to enable it.

The route i went is as follows for anybody who has the same question

My primary emulator is FinalBurn Neo. Added around 300 Roms from the Arcade Manager classic list.

My secondary emulator is mame2003-plus for now where i added the full romset.

We are now going throught the "master" list of the ~300 games where we test it , and enable shaders if needed.

In cases where something feels off in FBA then we turn to mame2003+.

But the important stuff is that we started enjoying arcade games with my daughter :)

I dont want to hijack this thread but i have a question concerning MAME on Pi4 in general.
My intention is to wait until the official image is released (i have pattience!!!, that is not the Point :) ) and i hoped that a more current MAME-Port will be supported.

So is this just the current beta-status of MAME for Pi4, or will MAME2010 or MAME2016 really be the end of what is possible?

There's a PR for MAME (trakcing the current version), it will probably included at somepoint. You can always install lr-mame, which tracks also the current MAME, but I guess a 'native' MAME installation would be better.

@mitu thank you once again Mitu!
I will always go for the ´native´ MAME, i second this.
So i keep following the situation.
I am very satisified with my arcade-solution for my Pi3B+ (still dont own a Pi4 ;)) which is the combination of AdvanceMame + FBNeo, but of course i would like to see a newer version in the future.
As a die hard SHMUP-Fan i would love to play all the newer Cave-Shooters i.e.
But i am not in a hurry, even if takes till 2023 it is ok for me :D

@sirhenrythe5th lr-mame is incredibly slow. I forgot what game I tested but it was ~2x slower than mame2016 which was ~2x slower than mame2010. 2016 might be a viable option, but as I said previously, I haven't done any thorough testing. I do want to test out games fbn can't run.

I don't believe mame will get a speed boost with the gles3 driver? I might be wrong. Which is a shame because I really want the cave games to be full speed.

How does Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate run on Mame2010 or 2016 on Pi4?

@GreenHawk84 I tried them now. Overclocked to 1.9Ghz using mame2016 and the crt-pi shader at 1080p.
                      They're both fullspeed at ~54fps.

@Darksavior ooh, sounds promising. I am waiting for a Pi model that can fully run MK2 and UMK3 at current emulation.

Maybe even Killer Instinct? I am wondering what OpenGL on Pi4 does for games over what Pi3B+ does.
