So I just got Retropie 4.6 because it worked for my Raspberry pi 4 and I installed it without Raspian because it always takes a very long time to get the setup running. I tried to use VNC Viewer for it and I enabled SSH and it gives me an error each time I try to turn it on. Do I have to install Raspian to get VNC Viewer working?

Retropie is built on Raspbian, so not sure what you need to install, but I guess the desktop/X.org environment ?

Note that RetroPie doesn't support working from the desktop/X.org session, but install and the desktop from EmulationStation - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/FAQ/#where-did-the-desktop-go.

@mitu I think I might just live with it but I will try to figure it out. Thanks for the help!

@Jacksons20 I think the message is self explanatory - only console users can use startx. You have to choose between running EmulationStation (and the emulators) or the desktop environment, where you can use VNC.

@mitu Well I only have the base image of Retropie 4.6, but I want to be able to play Retropie from my computer, would I just choose Emulationstation?
And does it give me a choice?

@Jacksons20 Then install an emulator on the computer then ?

And does it give me a choice?

                  Who ?
