Can't launch emulationstation from ssh on Raspberry pi 4
-
Hi,
Like the title says i can't launch emulationstation from ssh on Raspberry pi 4, i just get this message over and over:
...
failed to export dumb buffer: Permission denied
Failed to create scanout resource
failed to export dumb buffer: Permission denied
Failed to create scanout resource
failed to export dumb buffer: Permission denied
Failed to create scanout resource
...until finally :
"Emulation Station crashed!"
I was able to launch from ssh on my raspberry pi 3b+.
I have no trouble launching ES from the RPi4 itself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Please give more details about your setup - as detailed in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
The message you're receiving usually means there's another - graphical - application that it's started and ES cannot 'grab' the screen. Do you have the desktop already started on your installation ?

Sorry about that:
Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry pi 4 4GB
Power Supply used: Type C 700mA @ 5V
RetroPie Version Used: 4.6
Built From: On top of Raspbian GNU/Linux 10 (buster)
USB Devices connected: None
Controller used: PS3 Sixaxis bluetooth
Error messages received:...
failed to export dumb buffer: Permission denied
Failed to create scanout resource
..."Emulation station crashed! if this is your first boot of RetroPie - make sure you are using the correct image for your system. Check your rom file /folder permissions and if running on a Raspberry pi, make sure your gpu_split is set high enough and/or switch back to using carbon theme. For more help please use the RetroPie forum."
My gpu_split is 256 and i'm using Carbon theme.
I'm loading my roms from an smb but all the permissions are set to read and again i have no problems when launching directly from the RPi.I am running the Raspbian desktop when i try to launch ES, it wasn't an issue with my RPi3b+ over ssh or when i launch directly from the pi.
Thanks again.

It is an issue now on the Pi4 - it's not going to work.

Having the same issue, trying to use the EmulationStation to set up my 4 controllers with this:
https://github.com/meleu/RetroPie-joystick-selection
But I am getting the same error on RPi4. Is there no fix for this issue? I.e., can I only set up 3 controllers given I would need 1 of the USB's for a keyboard?

@pbc I'm not sure what your problem is, please open a new topic and describe the problem, adding the info in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.
