2.4 GHz wireless controller on PI4 connection issues
-
One thing I’ve been experiencing on my PI4 which I didn’t experience during two years on PI3B+ is that the 2.4 GHz wireless controller is having connection issues as near as 2.5 meters. When controller is showing lost connection I move 0.5 meters closer and connection is reestablished.
Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?

@Arcuza what case are you using on your pi 4? Whats the exact controller you are using?
-
@quicksilver Currently no case, controller is Speed-link TORID. I also have a SanDisk USB 3.0 that I didn’t have on 3B+.
-
@Arcuza 2.4 ghz is a very common and overused signal band. I suspect youre getting interference from other devices in the home. Wireless routers (especially if you're in an apartment building), baby monitors, cordless phones etc all can potentially use 2.4ghz signal.
Out of curiosity what screen resolution are you running your pi 4 at? I had read something a while back about the pi 4 emitting interference when the resolution was set to 2560×1440.
-
@quicksilver I have an WiFi6 accesspoint 20 cm from the PI4, that’s still supporting 2.4 GHz 802.11g because of Logitech Squeezebox Boom. But... It was equally close from the 3B+.
I can also put the controllers nano receiver on an extension cord.
The PI4 is running 480p continuously, which may be different. I’ll try to adjust that to 720p.
-
I increased distance to Fortinet WiFi6 to 2 meters, but not impact.
I changed resolution from 480p to 720p, but no impact.
I added an USB extension cord, and 2.4 GHz connectivity is rock solid up to 10 meters.
Do you think the USB 3.0 memory stick is interrupting the 2.4 GHz signal?

I think you hit the nail on the head. Just Google USB 3.0 interference and look at all the stuff that comes up.
-
@quicksilver Absolutely devastating. 2.4 GHz didn’t made the TV to couch distance...
