HAPPY BIRTHDAY RETROPIE!!
So, based on this, today is the fourth anniversary of Retropie. A nice moment to stop for a moment and evaluate what this awesome project has brought us.
Projects
The RPi with the RetroPie SW has been used in many different enclosures: Full sized, Bartops, handhelds, old NESses, old Megadrives, old Gameboys, old Playstation Portables, Altoid tins, carton boxes, controllers, lego, ...
Some numbers
Let us have a look at some numbers to try and get a feel for why the RetroPie project is to successfull:
- 4 MAJOR releases
- 75+ different systems supported
- 30+ games that not even bother with emulation anymore, but are directly ported to run on the RPi.
- 7,541 topics and 30,848 replies on the old PetrockBlog forum and many more on the New RetroPie forum
- 134 Github repositories that have 'RetroPie' in their name.
- 3400+ commits on Github-RetroPie-Setup
- 46 additional games to experiment with via Github-RetroPie-Extra's
- 138 Wiki pages and counting
- ∞ hours spent on configuring, tinkering, hacking and of course GAMING!
The important thing? It's people, it's people, it's people
At this point I would like to thank those who make all of this possible:
Our great moderators
They work tirelessly basically around the clock to keep this place tidy. They do a great job that is often underappreciated and they deserve a big round of

All the other active contributors
We have a lot of visitors that only come here to ask how to configure their PS3 controllers, we also have people around who need a hand in getting their MAME up and running, others have exotic hardware ideas or want to port it all to a bananaboard. Some are really just looking for some nice artwork or themes to make their retro-gaming experience really come to life.
For all you weird retro-hacker-gamers out there, know that we have the community to get you up and running in no-time at all! This is mainly due to the effort put in by our top commenters:

Wait no, that's not edible, maybe this?
Close, but lets settle for this:
Again, Happy Birthday RetroPie!
If you feel that this project is giving you a spark of joy that brightens your very soul, enriches your mundane existence on this mortal plane or that its just damn fun to stomp some Goomba's, why not consider buying the mods a cup of coffee?.

Some guys are in the "active contributors" already, but I think they deserve a dedicated section:

More names for this section?

@Zigurana Thanks for including me.

They're so cute at this age. Let's just hope that in a few years we don't have to worry about 'Great Giana' piercings and 'Sinistar' tattoos.
Happy Birthday RetroPie and thanks to everyone who has made it so much fun!
-
@Zigurana How about this for a cake?

@Zigurana
Happy Forth, RetroPie!
Thanks for letting me relive my childhood in a small package! -
Wow. I think @Zigurana 's post wins the best ever. Only possible due to many giving up their free time. Thanks all x
-
I would also say big thanks to Florian, who started it all, cheers!
-
Yes. One of the best posts ever!
I would also say big thanks to Florian, Jools, Herb, dankcushions and all other contributors! I would also thank maintainers of other repos like Aloshi, sselph, gonetz, ric-rpi, loganmc10, all libretro guys and all rpi hackers because without their groundbraking work Retropie wouldn't be possible and had not outlasted so long.

You forgot me... i'm so sad.
I don't know why, my little contribution on pcsx rearmed is not in the spirit of player... (multitap support 3-8 players on the same raspberry, rumble support in waiting state of merge)
It's a joke, happy birthday retropie project !!! -
@BuZz said in What's the date again?:

I'll throw my hat in and thank everyone involved in the project, as well as everyone in the community at large.
I have to say that it's a really good group of people on here and the knowledge sharing is fantastic.
-
I'm a newbie here and to raspberry pi in general but I'm amazed at this project and just to have my own retro gaming machine at such low cost is great. Everyone on here so far has been great and very helpful. I look forward to hopefully helping out others myself when my knowledge grows.
-
Happy birthday RetroPie! Just having recently setup my own RetroPie instance I have to say a big THANK YOU to all of the developers, moderators and helpful forum members for this great project. I am amazed on how versatile the little RP3 with this software is. Keep up the great work!
-
@BugAttack I am amazed on what can be done with a Raspberry Pi 1! :D
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
