Trying out "Killing Time". I quite like it so far, but it is a bit juddery. Playable, just about.
Killing Time on my RPi4 is pretty smooth for the most part.
RPI4 is overclocked and the lr-opera overclock settings do sometimes help .. i'm at 1.5x (18.75Mhz) and it's pretty smooth for an old game (not 60fps butter smooth, but better than what the real game on the real console could do)
Have you played far into the game? I've found that when I get to Tess' Temple (east of the main hall), the game gets really choppy - to the point where sometimes the music cuts out, and twice I've not been able to go to other areas afterwards, they are just black and I can walk out as far into the map as I want without anything happening. Sometimes if the music cuts out, and I go to a different area and then back, the music resumes.
There is a room with a winged vase in the middle at the start of Tess' Temple, that is the bit my Pi really hates.

Can lr-opera play multi-disk games? I can't see a Disk Control option and wondered if there was some other way that works with this.
I've got a few games I'd like to play that are multi-disk, but mainly Snow Job.

Most if not all 3DO multi disc games just save to NVRAM, ask to change disks, and reboot. The hardware for changing disks is not emulated so there is not point in having the disk control API setup since it there is nothing to do.

I am still unclear how this works, if you have multiple ROMs for the same game (ROM per disk). How do you load the next disk? Should I have a playlist file or something like that.
Good to know Opera can run multi-disc games anyway, I just don't quite get how it works yet.

Not entirely sure what you're asking. You just load the disc image like any other. You change it when it asks like you do any other.

I've always gone to Disk Control in the Quick Menu when a new Disk is required (ie. for Sega CD multi-disk games).

You literally just change the disk using whatever your interface is. Just like you would any other disk.
Disk Control is for systems with built in hardware and software for changing disks while the system is running. Opera/FreeDO doesn't emulate that so it can't have it. It doesn't much matter because most games just save and reboot the system anyway. Just like you would with any other game change.

@trapexit Perfect, so long as I can do it on my Pi with lr-opera then that is fine. I just didn't want to get to the end of a disk and not be able to switch. I don't get enough time to play games these days to have that happen!

I don't know how Snow Job works so I can't comment on it. I saw some playthroughs online but couldn't find the disk swap.

you need to enable the shared nvram option to play multi disk games.
It should read the saves game file and continue from disk two when you load the second disk
I wouldn't recommend that option as a global Setting just for multi disk games and a few odds and ends games . -
@gorgar19 Cool, so if I set all the ROM/disks in a game to Shared NVRAM then that should all work fine.

Has anyone got any tips for getting the best performance out of Need for Speed on 3DO? It seems to run pretty well on my Pi4 with overclocking (of the Pi hardware rather than the 3DO in emulation), but the sound is very patchy and it feels like it’s running a bit too slowly (even taking into account the slower speed of the game on 3DO).

Incidentally, does 3DO emulation benefit best from GPU or CPU overclocking? What are the bottlenecks for Lr-Opera on a Pi4?

Opera is mostly a low level emulator. That includes the graphics. Meaning that it's CPU heavy. Overclocking the GPU would make likely zero difference in performance.

Just don't globally turn on the shared nvram or your going to run out of save game space pretty fast even if you used the game guru to compress the games your not currently playings save game file your going to burn through the 3do's memory fast.games like theme park alone will use most of it.
Unless the developers add in an option to enable the FZ-EM256 256 KB Expandable Memory Unit and I have no idea how that could be done

There isn't any real info on the expansion memory unit but I'd like to try to implement it. That said it really wouldn't help that much as you have to explicitly move data to and from it AFAIK. (I have one but haven't played with it yet.)
The NVRAM is actually formatted with the operafs and I've been meaning to test if simply expanding the virtual storage would work. It's on my roadmap.

Has anybody experienced graphical glitches on Myst and Star Control 2?
Every time I get to a place where there should be a fade between two screens (ie. when I get nearer to a planet in Star Control 2), the fade screws up and I get an abrupt cut and a visual glitch.
I'll try and get some pictures up tomorrow.
