It seems Duckstation is a good alternative to PCSX-Rearmed and it is being developed fast with lots of interesting features, such as 24 color rendering, perspective correction, lightgun support, etc. It focus on performance rather than accuracy and a Retroarch core exists, so it should work on the Pi.

      https://github.com/stenzek/duckstation

Would it be possible to add it to Retropie (at least for Pi 4)? Some info on this can be found in the at the end of this thread:

How did you get it to compile? Do I need a Pi 4 8gb with its fancy 64 bit OS? It doesn't like the Pi 4 4gb, I'm getting

              Unknown system processor: armv7l

when trying to compile on a 4gb Pi 4.

System Config: Retropie 4.4 with full desktop, RPi 3B, 256gb SD, 5v 2.1A 5,200 mAH USB battery. EasyMSX controller mounted with Pimoroni Hyperpixel 4 (non touch). Also running 4.6 on a 4gb Pi 4 serving as my primary desktop computer now.

It's only for the RaspiOS 64 bit version (beta at the moment).

Is there a way to download the Retropie 64 bit beta like there was with the pi 4 weekly updates?

                  Currently running:
Retropie 4.8.9 on a Pi Zero 2W (Overclock Settings: CPU 1400Mhz)
                  ES-DE on a GMKtec K6 (Windows 11, 32GB RAM)

@George-Spiggott there is no beta for aarch64. RetroPie has preliminary support for aarch64, but no plans to switch over to it for the images.

You can download Raspberry Pi OS 64bit and manually install RetroPie, but it's not something I'm ready to support.

I was referring to the Raspi OS being beta at the moment, there's no RetroPie beta for aarch64.

Since 2020/11/21 duckstation has a armv7 32-bit recompiler (https://github.com/stenzek/duckstation#latest-news). Building it now to see if it runs. (Edit: You can also download it from https://github.com/stenzek/duckstation#libretro-core)

Update: DuckStation works flawlessly on an RPi 4, 32-bit! The only caveat is you need to be using a newer version of RetroArch (the one from RetroPie-Setup is stuck at 1.8.8 for now; I edited to script to fetch master and removed all the patches).

Hopefully they add it to by default to RetroPie soon.

@fcibx6r1un Which ROM formats does it accept? Does it support PBP yet?

@fcibx6r1un it doesn't work flawlessly yet afaik - there are some rendering issues. Btw @dankcushions did the Retroarch changes and some others relating to this, so we are aware of current compatibility etc. It will be added at some point when issues are sorted etc.

I would LOVE to have this on my x86 Retropie system!

Although no PBP support is kind of a real downside, since PBP has the best compression and is the easiest way to have 1 file per game.

2nd Best ... CHD has better compression and is also a very easy way to have 1 file per game.

Also, CHD is compatible with Duckstation :) FTW !

@dreamcastkid Correct, and the reason for that is that CHD compresses data tracks with 7z's LZMA compression and audio tracks with FLAC, using the best compression for the resp. data type.

And yes, easy it is, too. See here for a script and a one-liner for RetroPie's command shell bash to create CHDs from bin/cue files.

@clyde I'm tempted to convert my collection to CHD. Ideally I'd need a way to convert my existing PBP collection back to BIN/QUE in bulk.

                                            Currently running:
Retropie 4.8.9 on a Pi Zero 2W (Overclock Settings: CPU 1400Mhz)
