Pi Model or other hardware: 4
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.6

I build an arcade cabinet wtih retropie.
I have 2 build in controllers (joystick with 6 buttons).

When i have a game opened in arcade (mame2003)

i am able to press tab on a keyboard to open the options menu.
Here i can navigate using my joystick (that is hooked to player 1).
Im also able to use the a button to enter the chosen option.
But when i go to input (this game).
Navigate to the keybind i want to edit and press a.
Im not able to change the input.
I can press all the buttons aswell as every key on the keyboard but its not updating the keybind.

Any help with this or suggestions on how i might be able to fix this are welcome.

      Thanks in advance!

@Ginixx the button it's expecting you to use, is listed under input general, the UI binds are what's used in the menu.

          @Ginixx
Are you only using quick presses?
I would try holding the button you want to assign for a few seconds.

          -OR-

In one game I was reassigning an analog movement to a mouse and I had to move it back and forth a bit before it registered. Perhaps repeatedly pressing the desired button might work?

@Ginixx I suspect the menu UI is expecting a retropad input "a" but your input is being viewed as a keyboard input. You might need to change your input interface in retroarch..... Open retroarch go to: quick menu -> options -> input interface -> keyboard

Or you can set it up as simultaneous for both retropad and keyboard.

              Thanks for the replies,

@YFZdude i tried both quick presses as holding the button down both without succes.

@mahoneyt944 Im not sure this is my issue since i can navigate with my controller and also use either a or press enter on the keyboard to select what input i wish to change.
The input field then turns blank as if its waiting for me to assign a new button but at that moment it stops registering any input.
After about 4 -5 seconds it automatically backs out of changing the input.

@Ginixx what do you have it set to now? It should be core option, input interface - simultaneous. For most setups. Controls get tricky in mame because you can map controls then toggle options which can do odd things.

@Ginixx also I would open command from emulation station by pressing f4 on the keyboard. Make sure you don't have a key sticking. If you do, you'll see the text being entered. I've seen people improperly wire arcade buttons on the daisy chain tabs and get all kinds of issues.
