not launching any emulators/launchers from the emulationstation UI, even retropie settings won't launch in a terminal window.

Error messages received: N/A
Verbose log (if relevant): N/A
Guide used: I used this to install: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Manual-Installation/
File: ???
Emulator: All, including system settings.
Attachment of config files: no damn clue on how to find them :/
How to replicate the problem:
Download retropi on a installation of raspbian buster, get it working, wipe the drive clean, then reinstall retropie again on raspbian buster, then when you try to launch ANYTHING in emulationstation, it shoves me to the desktop for about 3-5 seconds, and doesn't show me a launch window for any emulator, or any terminal for the retropie settings in emulationstation.Basically, I can boot emulationstation, look at my ROMS, the systems they're on.
Basically, when I want to launch something. I select a game, the UI fades, it shows me the RASPBIAN desktop where it should show a launch message, but it's nothing. Just the desktop. After about 3-5 seconds of the nothing desktop screen, it kicks me back to the emulation station UI.
Oh, and if you could find a way for me to get 4.6, 4.5 or whatever on raspbian, that'll be a big help too as it'll probably fix this shitty bug.
