@Folly I'll do a test today then. Thank you for figuring that out!!
Hope it works for us !

@Folly Did you test it yourself?

@Zering said in Old Japanese Computer Appreciation Thread:
@AdamBeGood What file type are you using and what game are you trying to play?
I'm thinking now if Rude Breaker runs maybe it's not even BIOS-related.I've got quite a few games I'm trying..
Flame Zapper
Night Slave
Puyo Puyo 2All .hdi
Rude Breaker runs without any BIOS at all, I tried deleting all the BIOS files and it still works. :| I am a bit annoyed, I'll keep trying.

Did you ever see the "How Many Files?" message or the Japanese message? Or did you just get lucky with your BIOS files?
-
@AdamBeGood I suspect I got lucky.
I encourage you to keep trying, you're bound to find the right Bios eventually.
In the meantime why don't you try Rude Breaker? A bit of Compile shooting might be good for you ^^Is your rude breaker an .Fdi?

I've just been playing it - I like it! It's good for the frustration of BIOS hunting.
I'll keep trying. :)

@AdamBeGood can you share your settings for lr-np2kai?
The fact that you can even launch BASIC tells me your BIOS are good, I think the issue might be something else.
-
Which settings would you like?
I am so confused now. I can't remember which BIOS bought up the Japanese message, and I'm not sure if that is a better state than where I am now, with "How many files?".
You are right though, it was blank screen at the start. I think maybe the Japanese text was best.
When I enter any answer to "How many files?" I get a screen that says NEC N-88 Basic, so I wonder if this is a PC88 BIOS?

Yes, just a few directory's
Well, everything is at your own risk ofcourse :-)
Sweat, tears ....... You know it all. -

Think so too.
-
@AdamBeGood Okay, that's just weird.
I would recommend that you start from the beginning. Get fresh rom files. Don't worry about checksums yet and use the .wav files you have. Just make sure they're pc98 bios.If that doesn't work I'll need all the settings under options in the retroarch menu. That way I can compare to mine.

Yes, it is.
"How Many Files?" , I got this when I was running a bad .m3u with the extension capitalized. Perhaps you are running a bad file. -
Here's another game for you guys to try!

Okay, I have more games working! Do you guys use .hdi files? They don't seem to work.
I had a version of Mystic Square downloaded, but I guess that isn't going to work for me...
-
@AdamBeGood I use hdi, fdi, and fdd. Some games don't work but my installation seems stable overall.
If you get a BASIC prompt then something in your settings must be wrong. Especially if you've got more games working now.
If you share your settings we can take it from there. -

That's a nice one. Looks like "Aleste".
-
@Folly The Aleste games are awesome. And Zanac, by the same dev, on the MSX1.

Do you happen to know the maker of Mystic square ?
Have to unpak on maker. Hard to find that way. -
@Folly It's a doujin game i think, literally made by one guy (ZUN I think is the name he goes by).
It's part of the Touhou project if that helps. -

Not found, have to wait for a bunch more.
And then upack all of them. Everything is huge.
