@adambegood I confess the only AITD game I ever played was the New Nightmare on PS1, which I thought was a massive letdown. It does a lot right but it's tedious, unfair and annoying.
Funnily enough I was just reflecting that Alone in the dark is one of the games I have on the most platforms. It's even on the PC98. -

I never played New Nightmare. I have the PSP version to look at though.

@adambegood It's a gorgeous game, oozing with atmosphere. But respawning enemies should not be a thing in a game with tight ammo management.
Is the first one still worth playing? It's always looked fairly antiquated to me but I've never actually tried it.Edit : Tatsujin Ou is awesome, pretty sure it's going to turn out to be one of the best games on the Towns.
Moving on to something goofy now, like Ultima Underworld on a Japanese computer ^^ -
@zering So Tatsujin worked? That is good.
Erm, is AITD worth playing? It was for me, but I don't know how it would be for someone coming to it fresh. It's pretty clunky, in terms of look and controls.
It's very short though, if you play it with a walkthrough it only takes an hour. It scared the s*** out of me when I was 10! It's still interesting I think.

@adambegood Yep, Tatsujin ran pretty good, albeit with a few little performance issues - easily overlooked though. I've just realized it's actually an arcade game initially, Truxton 2. Supposedly the FM Towns version is the only home release.
I tried playing the Ultima Trilogy, which is english-friendly and far better-looking and sounding than most computer versions of the games from the same era, but it requires the mouse to launch and we all know that the mouse in MESS is a nightmare. I'll look into it later. Ultima Underworld launched, but it hung on a black screen after the first two logos.
I think I may skip on AITD for the moment then ; it looks a fair bit intimidating. -
@zering Ahhh okay, I have Truxton 2. I played it the other day actually.
I've translation patched Valis II and Star Cruiser on the X68000 today, and downloaded Galseed. I hear there is a Galseed 2 but I am struggling to find it. I've got a meeting now but I will try again later.
Good luck with the mouse problem. I remember Ultima Underworld on the PC, I had that when I was very young.
Edit: Galseed II is on a V4 HD image I can find, but actually pulling it out of there doesn't seem much fun. I will watch YouTube and see if it looks worth the effort.
Further Edit: Found some more dead links for Galseed II. Found some more good shooters while I've been looking though - Galseed 1 and Xadlak especially

@adambegood Can't be worse than me. I spent two months looking for CHDs for FM Towns and then Folly tells me I can use the bin/cue files that are readily available just about everywhere ^^

@adambegood Indeed, that's excellent! I think I'll read through the thread this week or next and write up a recap of everything we've figured out. That way it's easy to find should anyone be interested in getting these machines working! ^^

Well, I have to learn how this actually works.
But it seems it was succesfull.
It's already merged into the master branche of the retropie-docs
Now I'm curious how long it will take that we can actually see this change in the docs.
Did not add the .cmd extension yet. But next time I can do so.
I saw that they also altered the platform config accordingly.
So then we also can add the discription on how to make .cmd files. -

Can you only download the X68000 Neo Kobe in totality? I can't seem to get individual games from it, and it's 14gb.

@adambegood You should be able to pick which files you want yo grab if you're using a torrent.

It seems to be in unmarked zips - no matter, I'll just get it all. I am sure there will be some other stuff there.

In the process, I got quite a few other games so it was a nice diversion anyway. I didn't have a working version of Fantastic Night Dreams Cotton, but that is working now.
I have another couple of questions for you guys.
@Folly - can I add an Autoexec.bat to a .xdf file? I have Blue Phoenix and it boots to a prompt. I did "dir" and found "blue.bat", typing in "blue" runs the game fine. I tried doing
ed autoexec.batbut that didn't work. I tried editing other files just for my interest, but edit didn't seem to work generally.
Also, D-Return is running too fast, is there any way of slowing down the X68000 emulator? I couldn't see anything within the Options.

@adambegood @adambegood No worries at all. I just downloaded the collection myself - it's huge! I want to replace my old roms with the Neo Kobe ones but there's so much stuff to go through... I'm having the same problem with PC98.
In other news, I'm now back where I was! CHD files are awesome. I've got three times the amount of Saturn roms I used to have in .bin/.cue, but they take about the same amount of space. Just awesome. I'm thinking my next step is replacing all my PSX roms (which represent the bulk of my collection) with CHDs.I've played a bit of FM Towns ; it seems like most of the games I'd want to spend significant time playing (ie. the Ultimas and LucasArts games) require the use of the mouse, and I've been too busy fiddling with other things to spend any time on that.
But I did find this awesome game :
So far Tatsujin Ou and Genocide Square are the best working games on the system.

I've got Rayxanber II on PC Engine! It is quality.
