      Good morning all,
I have a PS4 bluetooth wireless controller. I have successfully connected it to the onboard bluetooth module of my raspberry pi 4.
It is functional and I can play SNES :)

The command shows that I am well connected

      root@retropie:/home/pi# hcitool con
      Connections:
      	> ACL 98:B6:E9:BF:37:42 handle 11 state 1 lm MASTER AUTH ENCRYPT

However, I cannot ping my controller. I would like to put it in SLAVE mode, which obviously greatly improves performance.

      root@retropie:/home/pi l2ping 98:B6:E9:BF:37:42
      Ping: 98:B6:E9:BF:37:42 from DC:A6:32:6F:D8:D9 (data size 44) ...
no response from 98:B6:E9:BF:37:42: id 0
no response from 98:B6:E9:BF:37:42: id 1
no response from 98:B6:E9:BF:37:42: id 2
no response from 98:B6:E9:BF:37:42: id 3

I have read the thread https://retropie.org.uk/forum/post/59910
I understood the process and I want to do the same. I disabled the wifi by configuring the /boot/config.txt file. The wifi is correctly disabled.

I suppose that's a bluetooth driver problem or ACL ... But don't find a way.

Help would be highly appreciated to tell me which direction to look for.

      Thanks
      Clement

      Here is my configuration
      Linux retropie 5.4.83-v7l + # 1379 SMP Mon Dec 14 13:11:54 GMT 2020 armv7l
Raspberry pi 4, 4Go Memory. Ethernet connected
Offical Power plug and SD Card

@bopnrgi Not sure if the said topic is still relevant today or how much latency difference is between the 2 connecting modes.

On my system (Pi4, PS4 Dualshock controller) things looks a bit different:

        hcitool con
        Connections:
        	> ACL DC:0C:2D:86:41:F6 handle 12 state 1 lm SLAVE AUTH ENCRYPT

        pi@retropie $ sudo l2ping DC:0C:2D:86:41:F6
        Ping: DC:0C:2D:86:41:F6 from DC:A6:32:04:CC:76 (data size 44) ...
        52 bytes from DC:0C:2D:86:41:F6 id 0 time 4.88ms
        52 bytes from DC:0C:2D:86:41:F6 id 1 time 6.01ms

          Thank you for your reply.

I see that your gamepad is in "slave" mode, while mine is in master. According to the subject this changes quite a bit.

But what I don't understand is why l2ping is not working on my retropie installation. Do you have an idea ?

No, I'm not familiar with it. How did you pair the controller ? Did you pair it manually or with the RetroPie Bluetooth configuration ?
