Multiple USB Thumbdrives Read Only

Hello.
What are possible reasons for a usb thumb being read only? So far I've only thought of corruption so I purchased another new usb drive, but now I'm getting it with the new one. Seems to happen in both usb 2.0 and usb 3.0 ports with the pi 4.
I'm currently running an H2TestW test to confirm that the drive is indeed 460 gb. The other usb thumb I've used for about 5 years with my RetroPie, so I figured that was the issue. The old sandisk got pretty hot.
The errors I get are: unable to save state, unable to save gamelist.xml files, and unable to save internal system save files.

Maybe is a problem with the rom folder permissions, try to reset them.
RetroPie setup >> Configuration / Tools >> resetromdirs

@windg Thanks, that did it. The old thumbdrive is showing read only even on my windows pc. Think that one is good as gone.
