@abj OK great, thanks for the reply! That was what I suspected but helpful to have confirmation.

@mitu said in No games launching currently (please help); everything worked the last time system was shutdown:

Well, are the games there or not ? You can use the File Manager entry in RetroPie to browse any folder on the system, including the ROMs folders.

Yes, everything looks good on the ssd still.

@mitu said in No games launching currently (please help); everything worked the last time system was shutdown:

Wasn't enabled before or did you use another method to add the external disc ?

It was, and all was working fine, but I did it again (hit the enable script) because I didn't know what else to do.--> I looked at the external drive again after this, all still looked good.

Currently, I have disabled usbromservice. Moved a single game over to the pi sd card, tested, and it also did not launch when trying to be ran directly from the sd card.

---> UPDATE: It has something to do with those blessed shaders we last talked about in another thread.

I had a setting set on retroarch config of use "this shader" for all cores.

I disabled load shaders and all is working again.

We were talking about this in another thread-- How do I know which shaders are supported?

      The other thread:

      https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/34887/can-t-get-shader-shader-presets-that-i-have-uploaded-to-pi-to-show-in-ui/8

Honestly like you said in the other thread, I don't need that many because half of them won't even work due to performance issues.

Thank you @mitu for everything you have helped me with. I'm sorry for crying wolf on a mistake I created.

@mitu I spent the last few days searching how to do that and couldn't find it. After using the key words Buzz posted I found the following site on the forum https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/8134/retropie-menu-missing-from-emulationstation/3
I think this will work now.

@breadpie If you created a Retropie folder on your USB drive, and are just using it to transfer games, then I think it just transfers the same data as when using Retropie-mount.

Retropie-Mount, meaning the games run from your usb drive, it also transfers BIOS, retropiemenu, roms, and splashscreen info. As far as I know, neither transfer any configs. Screen Shot 2021-08-20 at 3.45.39 PM.png

Or, if you need Windows compatibility without third-party drivers, use NTFS or ExFAT. Both are better than FAT32 and can be used out of the box in Windows and RetroPie.

Which features do you need the FS to have exactly?

@zenoxio if you rebooted the copying will stop. It only copies if the retropie-mount folder is empty.

@sleve_mcdichael @mitu thanks for the help. I reversed all the changes I made except for the location of the cache, just like in @sleve_mcdichael's example. Everything seems to be working now.

      Try running

      sudo ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh

at the prompt or through SSH and then update all packages and see if that puts it back.

My overnight copying session fixed the problem. I simply moved everything into the retropie-mount directory myself. The problem was it was expecting something in there and was finding nothing. Apparently retropie keeps track of the actual drive UUID and THAT is what it looks for on a mount.

Now I have a 256gb game capacity to fill up. :)
