RetroArch stuck on update at “^[[C” recurring
-
Hi. I’m new to the forum, I’ve done my best to look around for this but I cannot find anything relating to the code I’m seeing.
I’m running a Pi4 with retropie 4 installed directly from the retropie website
The system has been updating for about 13 hours so far, and about 8 of those hours has been the following screen. It was on the first line of “^[[C and this morning it’s still trying
All I was trying to do was update retroarch as some of the emulators weren’t seeming to work as well anymore. Has it crashed? And can I / should I switch it off? What could the repercussions be?
Many thanks for your anticipated help / advice :)

@roadhog you are installing standalone mame it looks like. it’s usual for it to take nearly a day. is the screen scrolling (eventually - it may spend several minutes on the same line)?
if you selected “install all experimental packages” you may be waiting for several days on a largely pointless exercise. none of these emulators are installed by default and they will be largely unsuitable for use anyway. hit ctrl+c to cancel.

@dankcushions hi. Thank you so much for the info. Really helpful. I think the mistake I made was, I went to RetroPie setup, and clicked update all installed packages. I then got a 2nd prompt about updating under laying cores or something? Which I also thought why not, and clicked ok.. here we still are. And yes it is moving along, extremely slowely but still doing that same few lines of ^[[D or ^[[C etc

@roadhog i believe the
^[[D
or^[[C
spam occurs when you press controller buttons/keyboard whilst I compile is in progress. it's harmless but i would just leave the system well alone, unless you want to cancel (then ctrl+c).
