      Hi,

Reading on RETROPIE DOCS among the many versions of mame available on Retropie there are MAME and lr-mame which correspond to the latest version of mame.

      in fact it says:

MAME has monthly versioned releases, there is no single version. Version 0.221 was released for May 2020, 0.222 for June 2020, etc.
Installing from binary will probably get a version that's a little behind the current MAME, installing from source will always get the latest monthly release.

      and

MAME Version: Similar to MAME, lr-mame follows the monthtly MAME releases, so there is no single version. Installing from binary will probably get a version that's a little behind the current MAME, but the upstream Libretro repository tries to keep up with MAME's monthly releases, so installing from source

      Now my question is this:

to download the correct romset where can I read exactly what version of the mame * I have downloaded?

*according to the Mamedev website, the latest stable version of the mame is 0.229 (24 Feb 2021)

Thanks to who will answer me

How did you 'downloaded' ? If you've used the binary install, you'll get Mame 0.229 and lr-mame based on the 0.229 MAME version.
