SRM files - Help Me!!!!!
-
@tripleb84 I think there may be confusion here. .Srm files are just save files that backup a games progress. Unless the game has a create a wrestler mode of some sort, there’s no way it can contain a updated roster. The updated roster would be In the rom hack, other wise known as an .ips file. The .ips file contains the changes to the original code. Now for retropie, you don’t have to patch the original rom. As long as rom name and ips file names match, other than the .ips and .smc/sfc extension, snes9x will just auto patch the rom.

is this the mod you want to use?
It comes in an IPS mod and like i said before, if you have the right base rom, you only need to change the name if the rom and IPS file to match. -
@lostless Thanks so much for your reply, yeah i’ve done that patch and loaded this on to my Retropie. What I have also downloaded is a few .srm files that claim to have created wrestlers on them from WWF, WCW, ECW and it’s these files that I simply cannot get working. I have named the file the same as the rom to no avail. Where would I be able to see if this .srm file is compatible with my rom?? It’s driving me insane! Haha thanks for your help!

@saccublenda how would I check that? (Sorry, serious newbie to all this)
-
@tripleb84 on the website where you downloaded these srm files, do they say something about the emulator they used?
-
.srm files are the saved RAM, used for in-game saves. It sounds like someone has shared a customized character that they have created in-game. You will have to load this character through whatever in-game save/restore method is available. It won't be something you can start a new game with from a "character selection" screen. That would be more along the lines of a ROM hack, which it doesn't sound like this is.
-
@sleve_mcdichael yeah it should have saved wrestlers in the creative wrestler slots, however, they are not in the saved area when I add the .srm file.
I’ve looked at the website where I downloaded it and as far as I can see there was no information on the emulator used. -
A question for the moderators: is it possible to share the website that hosts the
srm
files, provided that it does not contain actual roms? -
@tripleb84 please answer my questions above. so far we are unable to verify if your .srm is even loading, nevermind if it will do what you want.
@saccublenda it's probably fine but i don't think it's needed at the moment until we get more info.
-
@tripleb84 I’m assuming that the wrong rom is being used. If the game is modded with an ips file, the srm may be for the base game. Or even a version difference or region difference. Many reasons why an srm file may nor be working.
