Any idea why DOOM (lr-prboom) sometimes crashes on save?
-
Happens when I use the in-game save, but not every time I save. Sometimes when it crashes the save was successful and sometimes not.
Pi 4, official power supply.
RetroPie 4.7.12, built from official image.
lr-prboom installed from source, built 2021-05-02.
Connected devices: keyboard, gamepad (ps2-style: "Microntek (14 spaces) USB Joystick (10 spaces)"

No idea why it happens, but... any specific reason why you're not using lzdoom? As of version 3.87c, it does support gamepads.

Not really, just picked one based off what it says in the guide. I was not interested in the "new features or changes" as much as the "stable port of the more established or traditional engines."

Read that and I found it funny. Not that they are wrong, but they are using the description of PrBoom and applying it to lr-prboom. Being a Retroarch core is probably what makes it unstable.
LZDoom may be filled with too many extras, but its a straight port, so at least shouldn't crash. Even if its more difficult to use, you should give it a try.
If you do try it, do this if you have no sound:

...and increase deadzone in at least the first 2 axes of your gamepad before enabling it, or you'll have trouble in the menus. -

You're not selling it well...

@sleve_mcdichael I'm not selling anything, it's your decision to use it or not. I'm not benefited in any way.
I'm just talking about my personal experience with it. And that, once everything is set up, it stops being a problem.
