        Thanks for your reply and no problem. This is the contents of that file:

        input_overlay = "/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch/overlay/GameBezels/Sega32X/NFL Quarterback Club (World).cfg"

        The contents of that .cfg file mentioned are below:

        overlays = 1

        overlay0_overlay = "NFL Quarterback Club (World).png"

        overlay0_full_screen = true

        overlay0_descs = 0

          @fadangalini thank you. that seems fine (though you might want to try temporarily renaming the file so it doesn't get picked up, just to test)

          i just tried it on my setup and working fine here. can you please supply all the relevant config files:
          /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
          /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg (the picodrive lines, specifically)
          /opt/retropie/configs/sega32x/retroarch.cfg

            @dankcushions

            Thanks, I'll rename and try.

            Here are the configs you asked for:

            /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg:
            https://pastebin.com/embed_iframe/iZXFmrHG

            /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg:
            There doesn't look like there are any picodrive entries... so here's the whole thing.
            https://pastebin.com/embed_iframe/xwi9Y7UK

            /opt/retropie/configs/sega32x/retroarch.cfg:
            https://pastebin.com/embed_iframe/61h54SYn

              looking at your sega32x/retroarch.cfg, i think i understand why - it's a non-default one (the default one should be much shorter) and is overwriting the setting in /all/retroarch.cfg that would cause it use the default core-options cfg.

              rename
              /opt/retropie/configs/sega32x/retroarch.cfg
              to
              /opt/retropie/configs/sega32x/retroarch.cfg.bak
              and look for the default file in the same directory, called retroarch.cfg.rp-dist, and rename that to retroarch.cfg. this may fix your problem.

                @dankcushions Thanks, I'm out now for a few hours but will give it go when I get home again and let you know. Cheers.

                  @dankcushions Thank you, legend. It was the retroarch.cfg file. Set to the default and the roms loaded fine. I noticed that the .cfg file is slightly different to what I'm used to, on/off sliders instead of "on' and "off" text.

                  Thanks for your help, spot on!

                      @dankcushions Haha. More nostalgia really, saved all my pocket money for one as a kid, but only ever had Doom on it!

                        @fadangalini had one as a kid as well. Virtua racing and Virtua fighter are worth checking out.
