I think the answer is no, but I'd hate to not ask and it turn out to be possible.

Is there a way to map a single physical button to two in game buttons? For instance, several beat'em ups allow a special attack if you hit attack and jump at the same time. If possible, I'd like to map a button to achieve the special attack because the button is mapped to attack and jump.

It seems the Retroarch GUI allows you to map attack to multiple physical buttons, but not the other way around, so unless I'm missing something it doesn't seem possible, but perhaps there is an option to do so directly via cfg files?

      Thanks.

@denyou Have you looked into mapping buttons via config alterations?
        (like https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Xbox-360-Controller/)
Just a friendly reminder: always make a backup before messing with CFG files.

        What drivers are you using?
        What hardware are you using?

And there's this on every page:
"Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first"

There's actually some pretty helpful info there and not "legalese".
