RetroArch isn't displaying games in the center of my HDTV after upgrading to RetroPie 4.7.20
-
Greetings,
Last night I upgraded my RetroPie to version 4.7.20. Since then, RetroArch isn't displaying games in the center of my LG OLED HDTV. They are displayed left-of-center. It doesn't matter which emulator I use or which game I'm playing.
If I go into the RetroArch Quick Menu, the game moves to the center in the background. However, once I leave Quick Menu, it moves back to left-of-center again.
Additionally, the games don't take up the entire screen vertically like they used to. They're now shrunk down into a smaller visible box.
This issue did not exist in RetroPie 4.7.1

I think I'm starting to figure out the problem but am not quite there yet. The upgrade to 4.7.20 reset Video > Scaling > Aspect Ratio to "Custom" with some really weird settings.
Once I changed the Aspect Ratio back to 4:3, everything looked much better and games are now centered. However the game still does not fill the entire screen vertically like it used to. It's still shrunk down into a smaller visible box.

"Core provided" also works most times, for me (games like GBA and many arcade titles aren't 4:3 necessarily.)
However the game still does not fill the entire screen vertically like it used to. It's still shrunk down into a smaller visible box.
Do you have "integer scaling" turned on?

I changed to Core Provided, thanks for the heads up.
No, Integer Scale isn't turned on. It almost seems like RetroArch is only filling up my screen like it's 1080p max resolution and not a 4K screen, and that there's a black bar along the top and bottom that I can't see. Does that make sense?
-
@spectrumfox if you're using a pi4 you SHOULD be on 1080p. see https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Pi4/#issues-using-a-4k-tv
some games have borders on the top and bottom (eg many PAL psx games), so in those cases it's correct emulation. it would help to see a photo of the issue you're seeing, and a verbose log

@dankcushions Switching the resolution to Mode 16 (1080p 60fps) in RetroPie seems to have resolved the remaining issue. The game takes up much more of the screen and now looks visibly correct while paired with using "Core Provided" for Aspect Ratio in RetroArch.
Thanks for your help, all! I'm still curious why my display settings got all changed around after upgrading to RetroPie 4.7.20, but I'll leave that to people smarter than me to figure out. :)
Happy classic gaming, everyone! ^_^
