RPi3 RetroPie Buster and JVC TM-H150CG
-
Hello everyone!
Lately I became the owner of JVC TM-H150CG. It's a great CRT monitor that's equal (or even exceeds to some) to SONY PVMs.
I've decided to hook my RPi3 to it with Jack-Composite cable. Here's the result:Uncommented sdtv_mode in config.txt and tried almost every of the available modes, with no success.
Even bought new cables, issue still exist.Do you know how to deal with this kind of issue?
Thanks in advance!

Looks like a VSync mis-match. Does the monitor work with other composite sources ?
-
@mitu As you can see I've got PS1 there and it works flawlessly with composite cables.
-
What's your
config.txt
? -
@mitu Sorry for the delay, here's my current config.txt:
# For more options and information see # http://rpf.io/configtxt # Some settings may impact device functionality. See link above for details # uncomment if you get no picture on HDMI for a default "safe" mode #hdmi_safe=1 # uncomment this if your display has a black border of unused pixels visible # and your display can output without overscan #disable_overscan=1 # uncomment the following to adjust overscan. Use positive numbers if console # goes off screen, and negative if there is too much border #overscan_left=16 #overscan_right=16 #overscan_top=16 #overscan_bottom=16 # uncomment to force a console size. By default it will be display's size minus # overscan. #framebuffer_width=1280 #framebuffer_height=720 # uncomment if hdmi display is not detected and composite is being output #hdmi_force_hotplug=1 # uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA) #hdmi_group=1 #hdmi_mode=1 # uncomment to force a HDMI mode rather than DVI. This can make audio work in # DMT (computer monitor) modes #hdmi_drive=2 # uncomment to increase signal to HDMI, if you have interference, blanking, or # no display #config_hdmi_boost=4 # uncomment for composite PAL sdtv_mode=2 #uncomment to overclock the arm. 700 MHz is the default. #arm_freq=800 # Uncomment some or all of these to enable the optional hardware interfaces #dtparam=i2c_arm=on #dtparam=i2s=on #dtparam=spi=on # Uncomment this to enable infrared communication. #dtoverlay=gpio-ir,gpio_pin=17 #dtoverlay=gpio-ir-tx,gpio_pin=18 # Additional overlays and parameters are documented /boot/overlays/README # Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835) dtparam=audio=on [pi4] # Enable DRM VC4 V3D driver on top of the dispmanx display stack dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d max_framebuffers=2 [all] #dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d gpu_mem_256=128 gpu_mem_512=256 gpu_mem_1024=256 overscan_scale=1

If your TV is a NTSC set, why are you trying to send it a PAL signal ?
In yourconfig.txt
, you've setsdtv_mode=2
, which is PAL. Try using one of the NTSC modes:stdv_mode = 0
(Normal NTSC)sdtv_mode = 16
(Progressive scan NTSC).
See the entire list of options at https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/config_txt.html#sdtv_mode
-
@mitu was one of my thoughts as I've sawn that config.txt, but AFAIK the TM-H150CG supports PAL&NTSC, at least the ones that where sold here in germany did (IIRIR). So I am curious now if that really will solve the issue ;>
Edit: Ok, just wanted to verify my memory... the manual (to be found on a well known library side) (
EN, page 18, sorry service manual: page 1-2) cited: color system: PAL, NTSC (3.58), Scanning Frequency: H: 15.734 kHz, V: 59.94 Hz (NTSC), H: 15.625 kHz, V: 50 Hz (PAL) -> now I am really curious about it! -
Again, sorry for late resposne.
As I mentioned in the earlier post I've tried all of the available options for "sdtv_mode",
so probably it's the faulty cable. What do you guys think? -
@Trendkiller-9 Maybe, but haven't you said "even bought new cables, issue still exist"? I assume you bought ones designated for the pi (TRRS-Standards), but I really don't know what one would get displayed on a CRT with one of the other cable-variants. Any chance to test it on another display?
-
Ok guys, problem's solved. It was cables fault. Even if it's TRRS standard it's not 100% certain to work.
Best option to buy cables from verified manufacturer. I bought cables dedicated to XBOX360 E and it works!Nevertheless, thanks for your time!

@Trendkiller-9 Glad you solved it :D
