RetroFlag GPi Case 2 no menu sound

I've been trying to find a solution with no avail, but for whatever reason I cannot get sound through the built in speaker on Retropie for the GPi Case 2.
I've seen various threads such as,

I've tried this too on a new SD card, and even ordered another GPi shell to see if it was a hardware fluke.
I will note, sound DOES work in games, so that's a plus. But anywhere else, on the boot splash, background music, or menu sound are non existent.

I stand corrected, I did a fresh install again/installed safe shutdown script rebooted and seems to be working.Going to try and reproduce to make sure maybe it was just the config.txt that got screwed up or something.
