Retropie with Pi2Jamma stuck on control input (F4) screen?
-
So I had this setup all running for years. Then I wanted to update and it all went down south….
I can’t for the life of me figure out how to run retropie on my Taito Egret 2 anymore. I tried multiple installs. I tried the stuff that Pi2Jamma is considering and it works but it wont work nearly as good as the retropie stuff from about 5 years ago.I have a 3+ btw. After the install there is a popup for the control scheme or pressing f4 to quit.
Since it wont register my cab controls i attach a keyboard and hit f4. Then I‘m in Linux and on my own and don’t know what to do from there on.
I don’t know how I made the previous stuff all work but I hardly remember that I needed to do much stuff under linux?Any help or pointing is very much appreciated. Alslo I cannot change .sh files because I don’t seem to have rights and such.

Don't you need a driver of some sorts to make Pi2Jamma work like a controller/keyboard ? What RetroPie version are you using and which image did you try ?

@mitu I have downloaded the actual Retropie img. I'm now trying the full Raspberry Pi OS. But will it recognize my 15kHz monitor or is it HDMI only? thanks for your reply!
Edit: Pi OS just isn't right for this setup, so I deleted it and retry retropie now. I just hope that I can get it to work with a Non-HDMI monitor at this point.

Unless specifically configured, I don't think so.

@mitu is there just a config file ? I downloaded RetroPieRGB (.01 and master) but I don't get them onto the same image.

I don't know, I'm not familiar with JammaPi and I couldn't find a vendor documentation page which describes how it can be configured - just pre-made/pre-configured images which we don't support. Given it's using the GPIO for the video output, it won't work without additional configuration, which I assume is done through the
config.txt
file on the boot partition of the regular RasPi OS. -
@mitu thanks I'm on it! fingers crossed

@mitu so I have RetroPie running on my cab monitor but I'm still stuck in the "welcome" screen.
Why isn't it booting into emulation station/retroarch or anything else? Am I missing something?
when I attach a keyboard and press F4, I'm left to my own devices again on the command line... -

You need to configure a controller the first time you start, to be able to use EmulationStation.

Hi i very recommend you to use RetroPie Crt Evo
This version work like a charm

@beudbeud Thank you, I might give it a try. I now have the software from the Pi2Jamma guys installed, called "regamebox". But its just not as good, imho.
