Getting a controller to work in MAME4ALL
-
Hi all,
I have searched for the answer to this question but for the life of me I cannot find it.
I cannot get a controller to work when I use the MAME4ALL. I want to use this as most of my roms seem to work while the other emu (mamelibretro) works fine with the controller but virtually none of the games will run.
When i installed the software, it asked me to config the controller, and that works just fine, i can move around the menu's etc but when i launch mame4all it switches to the keyboard and refuses to see the controller.
I know I am missing a configuration somewhere, i just need to be pointed at where . Can anyone advise me please?
Many thanks

mame4all requires additional configuration - see the wiki

@SpeedStar MAME4ALL is not a libretro core so therefore it will not use your configuration. You need to press TAB to enter the menu so that you can configure your controller. You should then read these pages:
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/MAME to learn how to configure MAME
then
https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/MAME
to find out why your games will not run.

I think I have a workaround, I dumped all my roms to ARCADE and then chose the emulator to use. Its not perfect but i can use my controller!
Thank you for the help

@SpeedStar You should press TAB as rbaker said above.
Here is an overview:

I did try that, but the stick is not read in mame, if you try to map a button or direction, nothing happens. thank you for the link, its very useful

@Floob What do I do if the keyboard tab only open the menu. and can't enter it? The keyboard works fine in all my retro pie configs, but not name. But I did notice that I was able to control a game via keyboard in the background when the tab menu was open.

Ever figure the problem out? I am having the same issue.
-
@SpeedStar Please let me know if you ever worked this problem out. I am having the same issue, and I can't figure it out.

@RoswellWitness Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
-
@BuZz Sorry. I am not very familiar with these forums. I don't know what exactly I did wrong.
-
@RoswellWitness Read the post I linked.
If you have done the above steps please create a new topic and add the following relevant information so that we can help narrow down the cause of your issue. Please do not add a "me too" to an old topic, as the cause of your issue may be different. Make sure your topic title summarises the issue - do not use topic titles like "HELP ME".
Instead of adding to a 7 months old ticket, open a new topic describing your problem. Things change, and causes of problems are different.
You were also asked yesterday to provide more information when asking for help.
-
@BuZz I did start a new topic on this a few days ago. I just asked on the older one, in hopes someone can maybe help me.
-
@RoswellWitness Well, please don't - Please wait for a reply on your existing topic.
-
@RoswellWitness You have been asked for more information on the other topic - please provide it and you may get a resolution.
-
@BuZz Umm? Ok. No one has asked me anything. But if you say so, ok. I am not here to argue. Thanks.
-
@RoswellWitness https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/9201/mame-joystick-issue - you replied "I thought I gave all the info that was needed? Sorry." but still haven't provided any of the information mentioned in the read me first link.

In oder to get your controller to work for example: NeoGeo X joysticks, ps2 pads, xbox controllers, or whatever controller you have to work with Mame, you need to configure settings to joystick if using joystick and controller pad if using controller pad within in Mame 'Properties' . <== Click File <== Properties<== Controllers<== Enable Joystick Input if using joystick. Then goto Controller Mapping and then check off whatever applies that you are using. Then start the rom Mame game you want to play, then push the 'Tab' key, then push 'Enter' then move your Joystick or Controller then push Tab again to save and exit out to configure the inputs in order to map
the joystick or controller whatever you are using for each separate Mame game, and you need to do this once every time for each individual game in order for your controller to work.Hope this helps! :)
