eDuke32 doesn't load title screen for Duke: Caribbean Vacation - Life's a Beach
-
@RapidEdwin08 The vacation.grp in my folder has that md5 checksum. The other two (DUKE3D.GRP and DUKE.RTS) also have the matching md5 checksums you have listed. At least I know that I have the correct files for the main game and the Vacation DLC. I think I might be missing one or more files that is/are necessary to make the title screen with Duke standing over the pigcop's head (buried in the sand) with two women standing nearby in the water. Since I'm using the Megaton Edition files, it is slightly different. I'm pretty sure there's something missing because when you load Duke it Out in DC, there is an emblem added to the far left along with the normal Atomic Edition title on the screen. With Nuclear Winter, that part of the title also gets added to the Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition portion. All of these appear when you run the games as originally intended on a PC.
I might be wrong in saying all of this, as this is eDuke32 (Raspberry Pi) that loads all the necessary files. It may actually use the regular Atomic Edition title. If anyone has an idea, please let me know.
-
@Striderx99 I checked my installation and it shows the same behavior as yours. I'm using the atomic edition as a base.
What also puzzles me is the episode selection: in vacation and dc, the new episode replaces ep 3 of 4, while the nw episode replaces ep 2 (and there is only LA meltdown as ep 1 an no others)
...strange. -
I'd like to try another emulator that will load these files to see the result. Maybe rednukem would work? I would have to check the RetroPie documentation to see if there might be others as well.
-
@Striderx99 no rednukem will not work. That is built only to run redneck rampage. That's it
There is no other engine that runs duke3d that works in the pi that I know of.

@Striderx99 Here's what works for me
@RapidEdwin08 do you just mean the game itself works, or do you really mean the title screen?
I have a different GRP file with a different checksum (from installation CD, not Steam download) and I get the same result as @ecto and @Striderx99 does, where the game does play, it's just the title/splash screen is wrong, it still just shows the Atomic Edition splash instead the Vacation one. DC shows an altered splash screen with the DC badge in one corner, and NW shows a whole animated cutscene at the start, but Vacation just shows the regular AE splash.

@sleve_mcdichael said in eDuke32 doesn't load title screen for Duke: Caribbean Vacation - Life's a Beach:
but Vacation just shows the regular AE splash.
Maybe that's how it should be?
I never tried it on a PC so I don't know if it changes or what -
When you load the Vacation DLC (from the Megaton Edition), it shows the title screen that I mentioned on the PC. There's also a different title screen for Duke it Out in DC (just including a banner on the upper left with the title) and the Atomic Edition logo on the bottom. Nuclear Winter just has that title bundled together with the Atomic Edition logo. I can also confirm with what @ecto said about the episodes appearing on each of the menus.
When it's all said and done, the games are playable, but it appears that eDuke32 is missing that title screen. Menu items also appear differently. I may try to throw in Penthouse Paradise to see if I can get it working too. I don't know if there are any multiplayer sections that work.
-
@Striderx99 oooh! What is Penthouse Paradise? I. Need. More. Duke! ;)
-
@ecto It's another DLC that sounds exactly like what it is. ;-P. I don't think you will find the CD version for purchase anymore, however. Google it and explore, you'll eventually find it.

@Striderx99 If you tried the file from both the atomic and megaton edition and the same outcome. Then it's eduke.
You can go on eduke GitHub and see what they say. Can't say they will do anything or not
