Need Some Advice Please

Taking the piss ? I am actually serious. I do read the wiki's and ask about things I don't understand or ask for a direct link.
Well, if you are truly making an effort, could you please help us out? You too can contribute to this project by going back to the wiki pages you tried to understand earlier, and see if you can clarify what is written there. It is only with feedback from beginning users like you, that we can improve the documentation.
Even if you can just point out those parts you think are unclear, and how they should be improved, that would be a help.
This way, everyone benefits, especially new users!

Sure, didn't know I could edit others wiki or forums thought only admins could, but sure from now on if there is something I have tried and haven't understand I'll link it and suggest edits that could be made :)

I need some help. I keep trying to post a new topic, but it says "Not enough tags. Topics must have at least one (1) tag." I have typed in a topic, long or short and it keeps saying it. (Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I couldn't post anywhere... heck I don't even know if this will work lol)Never mind... I figured it out after a couple hours lol.

Hey baker sorry to bother you once again, but im in a dilemma, I got 029738 romset and 2003 mame refernce set. 029738 romset is 10gb and has 4,000 roms inc parent and clones and the 2003 mame refernce set is 17gb and has 2,000 parents and clones, i was wondering do mamae and fba games overlap ?, so I wouldnt have to xfer the 17gb mame refernec set and save that space for other emulators. cheers

You just need to read the wiki. On there, there is a very clear FAQ section. In that section, there is this:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FAQ#why-does-shut-down-and-reboot-take-ages
I had this problem and it was solved by reading those instructions to stop it from happening. It is even marked under troubleshooting to make it easier to locate.i was wondering do mame and fba games overlap ?
I will assume that you are asking if the same game exists in FBA and MAME? If so, you need to re-read the concepts behind how the emulation of the roms are handled. Games dont "appear in" an emulator. You have to think of the rom file as the original dumped code in a zipped package. If it is zipped and named incorrectly, the emulator of your choice will not run it, hence the romset versions. These versions will only execute with the emulator that they have been compiled for. They evolve over time - you did read those links I posted days ago on this right? Each romset will contain hundreds of identical games but you will not be able to run those games on multiple emulators, hence the need to offer the variety of MAME and FBA versions. I use lr-mame-2003 for most things but for vector games, advancemame is superior and also offers trackball support. I like MAME4ALL due to its performance but lr-mame allows use of the pi-crt shader to emulate scanlines. Each set can only be used according to the dat file. By now, you should know that if you have a recent version of mame roms, you could rebuild any set to any version using clrmamepro if you can be bothered. I did it because I had a 0.111 set and didn't want to download another 50GB. You can also locate "lite" versions of the dat files that remove all the duplicates and some game types to make a cleaner set for the menus.

@Dominus Can you please advise. I'm clearly not the most intelligent of lads as I don't seem to be able add Tags either :(
-
@grahamken Haha yeah I should have put what I did. On the bottom left under the title and message it says "Enter tags here" or something similar. I think you just put keywords in there.
-
@Dominus Thanks Man, really appreciate it. Not so obvious, so don't feel too dumb.

I reformatted my sd card and got retro pie 4.0.2 but, now I have the rainbow box flash in the middle of the screen and when i go into command line by pressing (f4) and type Add disable_splash=1 in /boot/config.txt in one line it says (-bash: in: command not found ) ?
Pi@retropie:- $ disable _splash=1 in /boot/config.txt
-bash : in: command not found -
You have to edit the file. Come one man, this is basic 2 second google stuff. I'm not watching or replying to this thread any more

Link to how to edit file and how to do it ?

Hello guys,
I was wondering if i can scrape roms that have numbers infront of them like 2607-Zelda for GBA using Steven Selph's Scraper or does Steven Selph's Scraper scrape roms using rom hash ?. I read https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/scraper but doesnt mention anything regarding numbers infront of roms
Thank you
-
@awsd12 I haven't tried it myself with Steven's, but the ES Scraper did not find anything till I removed the number on one of my roms (A Final Fantasy VII rom for the NES, which should have produced some kind of result). If it doesn't work you can try to get a mass renamer for your roms specifically, or mass renamer like Métamorphose that might be easier to use then renaming them all individually.
-
Yeah Doesn't really work, another thing I found out was most of Neo Geo games are in my FBA romset ahahahha so at this time I dont really care anymore its just to much of a hassle.
