Pi4 B : Screen goes black when attempting to access Retropie settings.

RetropieI saw that there were previous posts from a few years ago but none that I saw ever said how or if anyone was able to fix the issues.
I don't own a tv, so I am using a monitor, but when I attempt to go into the Retropie settings, whether it's attempting to config the wifi, to any of the other options on the settings screen, the screen just goes black and stays black until I reset it. I've tried switching with HDMI out port I was using, and they both do the same. And since I don't own any other monitors or a tv, the one monitor is all I have for testing things.
I was just hoping that someone might recall what the fix was to prevent the black screen of death as it were, when I attempt to modify any of the setting options from the settings screen.
