Retropie ES config 3B+
-
Hi all!
I am still baby stepping here
I recently updated my pi as the old retropie wasnt being supported anymore and started the process, as well as my research, from scratch
Following the guide I first installed the Bookworm from here > Raspberry Pi OS with desktop and recommended software and then retropie on top using image files provided and all went well.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/M4Z8xvLFkX7WaAXN8Executed the update, upgrade and full-upgrade successfully (possibly upgraded the system to Buster).
Next I enabled SSH and VNC, gaining remote access (winscp) and copied some previously used ROM files over and then when launching emulationstation got the following accordingly:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/CFWWsz9GkJgc3yn97I have looked on the forum but I know too little to even formulate the qustion right.
I am almost certain there is a problem with the config file but unsure how to fix it and/or whether this is even remotely related to this issue, though I would assume all the current image files would have addressed the fact already(?)additionally tried step 15 from this guide, to no avail - see here
I tried to post on this forum in the first place but had little response.
Please advise and many thanks for your time in advance.

Pi Model or other hardware: (3B+)
Power Supply used: (official provided with my Pi O: 5.1V, 2.5A I: 240V 50/60Hz, 0.5A)
RetroPie Version Used: (5.10.103-v7+ armv71) -
It is not recommended to install RetroPie on top of Pi OS Desktop, as this can lead to issues. Additionally, there is an upstream issue that creates problems with Bookworm Pi OS Lite: https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/5780 . For now, RetroPie (Buster) is the best option.

You basically re-wrote the RetroPie image on the sdcard, over the newer RaspiOS image that you installed initially - while you may have the latest RetroPie version, you're still using an older version of RaspiOS (based on Debian buster).
The RetroPie image is using by default the
pi
user to operate, if you're using a different username, the installed front-end and emulators will not work. I advise you to re-flash the RetroPie image from the download page for your Pi model and boot it up, then continue from there. The system should reboot on the 1st start and then it will start automatically with EmulationStation. If you want to use a newer RaspiOS, then you can install the Lite version and manually install RetroPie as described in the docs.
