      @ExarKunIv thanks for your infomation.
      you have pi5 and runnning on emulation station?(Retropie)?

      my emulator.cfg is here
      openbor-v5 = "/opt/retropie/emulators/openbor-v5/OpenBOR %ROM%"

      my .pak file now to /rom/ports/openbor

      When I select a game, the screen goes dark for a moment and then returns to the original EmulationStation screen.

      this is my pics.
      any ideas?!

        yes since the openbor-v5 will only work on the Pi5. i have it written that way
        and yes its only on retropie.

        so a few questions.
        1 what did you follow when you built your system. (instrustions)?

        2 do you have a desktop

        3 do you have the kernel=kernel8.img in the config.txt?

        4 can you post the runcommand output. look for it here after you try running a game
        /dev/shm/runcommand it will help me see whats going on

        since there is no offical image yet. i have to see what you are running
        i use the unoffical image from here or used to be there. the links are not working at this time
        so my sruff might be different then yours

          my pi5 system already built in SDcard.(.iso image)

          yes. but my setting is now not desktop running on startup (console emulation station only)

          3 do you have the kernel=kernel8.img in the config.txt?

          boot/firmware/config.txt is here

          [all]
          kernel=kernel8.img
          hdmi_force_hotplug=1
          config_hdmi_boost=11

          sudo nano /dev/shm/runcommand

          btw, my pi5 running on NVME SSD. SD card to NVME SSD boot changing

            in the /dev/shm/ folder. you will have a runcommand.txt. i need whats in that.

            hmm for me to really say i need the runcommand.txt. but there is a chance that you having a desktop even though its not running is the problem

              dear @ExarKunIv

              after openbor runnning on emulation station..

              pi@retropie5:/dev/shm $ sudo nano runcommand.log

              but not shown (empty files)

              /dev/shm
              -ls
              runcommand.log
              only

              でも、デスクトップが起動していないのにデスクトップが表示されていることが問題なのかもしれません。

              no, my situation is...
              x-window only runnning when i xstart command.
              default is only emulationstation.

                @retro777 im going to agree with that. i think since you have desktop even if not enabled. it does not play nice with that system.
                i never make or test any of the scripts with desktop since any of the official images of retropie don't have it. and then they say something might not work correctly if retropie is installed over a desktop

                    @retro777 thats the thing. it is auto when you start a game. be it from NSE, SEGA or a port.
                    since something is different on your build the emulator.cfg is not working as it should
                    it does not make anything since its not even starting

                      but can't show when runnning openbor..
                      this is very strange things,,, sad

                      and openbor-v5 config directory is empty, this is right? openbor directory had config files.

                        @retro777 you need to look in the openbor-v5 folder and see what that emulator.cfg says.

                        also you said you install this from a image. where did you get it from?

                            @retro777 yes that is correct.
                            at this point it is something with the image you are using.
                            since there is no official image yet. it was made by some extremely amazing person here.
                            and i think you will have to ask them.

                            i think it has something to do with having a desktop. since the image im using does not have one. and openbor works correctly

                                @retro777 i dont know. i dont use or have desktop on my images. so i cant test it.
                                with the images that are as close to what a stock retropie image would be. it works just fine.

                                the script installs what it needs and it works. since there is no runcommand.log there is not much i can go off of.

                                since you have the .pak files in the openbor folder that is in the roms folder and retropie sees that from what your pic showed.
                                and you posted what the emulators.cfg is (granted you should of not needed to move anything) the script puts what it needs, where it needs it.

                                all you need to do is put the files in the right folder

                                        also since you have 2 versions installed. you have to make sure that openbor-v5 is the one being used to run the roms

                                        when you start a rom you have to press A to open the runcommand.

                                            @retro777 try A or joystick button, but same problems...
                                            very strange my situation.
                                            run openbor game, no appear runcommand menu, look like other NES,MD or more.

                                            My environment does not seem to go through Runcommand, only OPENBOR.
