      So I've got around to updating since I haven't in months and now my Hotkey instantly opens retroarch.

      The default combo is missing. I'm using a dualshock 4 and the hotkey is the ps button. I also use the ps button as a pause button for lr-mame, lr-fbneo, etc. and it worked flawlessly for years..

      I tried redoing emulationstation inputs, copying over my backup retroarch.cfg, deleting and letting retroarch create a new retroarch.cfg ... No dice.

      So I need help to get it back to doing the default combo.
      How do I go about this?

        Please add some info about your setup, as asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

        Post the contents of the configuration file for the gamepad, from /opt/retropie/condigs/all/retroarch-joypads - there should be a .cfg file named similarly to the gamepad's name.

        ... deleting and letting retroarch create a new retroarch.cfg ... No dice.

        This isn't a good idea, since RetroPIe's defaults for your platform may not be correct/usable. If you wish to start with a 'clean' retroarch.cfg, then re-install the retroarch package, this will generate a proper default file for your platform.

          @mitu I'm on an intel nuc 11 enthusiast with Ubuntu 22.04 using a dual shock 4. In the retroarch joypads folder I have two but one is blank..

          Wireless Controller.cfg

          input_device = "Wireless Controller"
          input_driver = "udev"
          input_vendor_id = "1356"
          input_product_id = "2508"
          input_r_y_plus_axis = "+4"
          input_r_y_plus_axis_label = "Right Analog Y+ (down)"
          input_left_btn = "h0left"
          input_left_btn_label = "D-Pad Left"
          input_state_slot_decrease_btn = "h0left"
          input_r_x_minus_axis = "-3"
          input_r_x_minus_axis_label = "Right Analog X- (left)"
          input_right_btn = "h0right"
          input_right_btn_label = "D-Pad Right"
          input_state_slot_increase_btn = "h0right"
          input_r_btn = "5"
          input_r_btn_label = "R1"
          input_save_state_btn = "5"
          input_down_btn = "h0down"
          input_down_btn_label = "D-Pad Down"
          input_r_y_minus_axis = "-4"
          input_r_y_minus_axis_label = "Right Analog Y- (up)"
          input_l_btn = "4"
          input_l_btn_label = "L1"
          input_load_state_btn = "4"
          input_r_x_plus_axis = "+3"
          input_r_x_plus_axis_label = "Right Analog X+ (right)"
          input_y_btn = "3"
          input_y_btn_label = "Square"
          input_x_btn = "2"

          input_menu_toggle_btn = "2"
          input_b_btn = "0"
          input_b_btn_label = "Cross"
          input_reset_btn = "0"
          input_a_btn = "1"
          input_a_btn_label = "Circle"
          input_up_btn = "h0up"
          input_up_btn_label = "D-Pad Up"
          input_select_btn = "8"
          input_select_btn_label = "Create"
          input_l3_btn = "11"
          input_l3_btn_label = "L3"
          input_start_btn = "9"
          input_start_btn_label = "Options"
          input_exit_emulator_btn = "9"
          input_l_x_plus_axis = "+0"

          input_l_y_minus_axis = "-1"
          input_l_y_minus_axis_label = "Left Analog Y- (up)"
          input_enable_hotkey_btn = "10"
          input_l2_btn = "6"
          input_r2_btn = "7"
          input_l_y_plus_axis = "+1"
          input_l_y_plus_axis_label = "Left Analog Y+ (down)"
          input_r3_btn = "12"
          input_r3_btn_label = "R3"
          input_l_x_minus_axis = "-0"
          input_l_x_minus_axis_label = "Left Analog X- (left)"

          The other blank one is:
          Sony Interactive Entertainment Wireless Controller.cfg

          I'm also getting a strange git error when reinstalling..

          "Error running 'git checkout master' - returned 128"

            @HoJo215 said in Hotkey opens retroarch menu instantly?:

            Wireless Controller.cfg
            ...

            I don't see anything wrong here, button X is also defined as menu toggle and the Hotkey enable button is a different button, so I don't see how's the X hotkey enable button is opening the menu by itself - the corresponding hotkey is bound to X.

            Is this the configuration loaded by RetroArch when starting up a game - is the "Wireless Controller configured in port 0" printed on start ?

            The message could be from a the shader folder update, but a full log would clear that out. You can run from the CLI:

            cd $HOME/RetroPie-Setup
            sudo ./retropie_packages.sh retroarch

            and post the output on pastebin.com, it should be clear from the output where the error is coming from.

              @mitu I got it. Had to move /retropie/all folder, then uninstall retroarch and reinstall it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

                I'm not sure that's the right approach, since there are multiple config files under /opt/retropie/configs/all, not just RetroArch's. You may have solved the issue for RetroArch but broken other RetroPie components in the process.
