run Kodi on a usb drive from retropie

Hi all, so i know from seeing the firestick in action that kodi probably needs a lot more space than a small sd card to work well. I have a 16 gb flashdrive lying around and want to install kodi on it then run it from there on retropi. Is this possible and can anyone point me in the correct way of doing it?
