Having issues with MAME2003 not seeing my USB trackball every time.

It seems to work with trackball games at random. For example in centipede it will sometimes not be seen by the game. Turn the machine off then on an it might be seen.

I've substituted the trackball for a mouse and get the same result.

The two other controllers are working fine all the time.

Anyone any ideas on how to make MAME2003 see it everytime?

In KODI it is seen everytime so not sure what is going on?

@Chillimonster It might be helpful to know, when 2003 is NOT seeing the trackball, what happens when you exit out of Emulation Station and run the linux tests I outlined on the trackball wiki here.

@Chillimonster do you have more than one mouse (or trackpad or any other mouse type device) plugged in at once?

I'll do the test later (will need to connect a keyboard)

Only one trackball attached (no mice), along with two dragon rise zero delay encoders

So, having done the 'test' i can report back.

When the trackball is not recognised i get no response from the cat / dev/input/mice command, and when it is detected i get the usual character output.

Going to try re-imaging the card incase i've messed something up, and have another play later.

Not a bad thing to try, but if this was image corruption it wouldn't be changing. I wonder if maybe the USB connection is intermittent or perhaps draining the power to a point where it stops working. Because the 'test' revealed that when it's not working, linux itself isn't even getting the inputs. I've seen similar issues when plugging in too many devices without a good power supply, or not using a powered USB hub.
