Hello, first a little background. I recently purchased a full size cab with pandoras box 4 in it. I'm impressed by it and enjoying it but the picture quality isn't the best with screen tearing and that horrible filter/shader they've used hiding all the detail. Seeing how cheap it would be to replace the pandoras box with a retropie setup I thought I had nothing to lose. So last week I bought a raspberrypi 3 and have installed the latest version of retropie 4.02 on it. All packages have been updated within retropie so I have the lastest version of all the emulators. I have mame, snes, megadrive , master system, Neogeo roms all working fine, but have been pulling my hair out for a few days trying to get a lot of the capcom roms working like Marvel Vs Capcom. I've tried roms from a few different sources and have run them through clrmamepro, using DAT files for the emulators that I've tried, Pifba, lr-fba and lr-fba next. So far I have failed. Most of the time I try to launch a game it just drops back to retropie, the closest I've come is using Pifba the game actually looks like its going to work, the yellow ram check bar fills up but then it drops back to retropie.

scratching my head here, can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong please?

      Thanks

      Kev

MAME ROMs need to be the same version as the emulator in use.

You can see the versions at: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs

lr-mame2003 uses the MAME 0.78 ROM set. lr-fba-next uses the MAME 0.173 ROM set.

If you go to some random ROM site and download ROMs from some unknown or different MAME version, that ROM may not be compatible with those emulators.

If you search for "mame2003 reference set" or "fba 0.2.97.38 reference set" you'll find the correct ROMs for these emulators.

I recommend you use lr-fba-next as the CPS2 controls make the most sense to me. Start a two-player game with no other player to give yourself time to get used to which punch/kick buttons are which on your controller. Once you are comfy then start a single player game.

Before you ask, the best way to play MvC2 is with the Dreamcast port and even that runs pretty poorly on the Pi. Stick to MvC 1 and the other CPS games :)

There are many to choose from:
