@aengeon It must be either something in your settings, or a problem with the bin cue format. I am happy to report there are no such issues with my eboot. I can't tell you where I got it from, but you can find it easily.

I hit the select button many times at different positions in the airplane where the pistols are. Used bandaids, saved the game, or just going back to the game..all went fine.
I'm glad as Tomb Raider 2 is my favorite TR so would be a shame if it didn't work properly.

Update: I've been able to freeze the game. I left the Pi running with Lara in the airplane. I came back after maybe 15 minutes and the game was frozen. I tried it again and this time the game kept running but froze after hitting select. So for me the game seems to run fine unless I let it run while doing nothing.

@bobharris Very odd, So the circumstances in which the game freezes seems to vary. However the outcome remains that it does indeed still freeze randomly. I'll try the eboot and see if I have any better luck with it. Thanks for the input.

SCPH101.BIN. The one from PSOne, so it's the latest one available.

This is my current list of games that I'm having issues with as I get ready to build out my RetroPie system:

                      Windows 10
                      Emulation Station
                      RetroArch
                      pcsx_rearmed_libretro.dll
                      SCPH1001.BIN BIOS

Metal Gear Solid: black screen on launch
Gran Turismo 2: see a splash screen on start, then it freezes and stays there.
Street Fighter 3 Alpha: sits on checking memory card forever.
Crash Team Racing: sony spash screen, then it freezes.
Front Mission 3: game launches and then shows "loading" but never moves past that.

                      Any suggestions is appreciated.

Quake 2 runs until mid-second level. There are graphical glitches galore after that and it's completely unplayable. I tried a PBP file, bin/cue files all have the same result.

Try another bios, most of those problems occur because of that.

I notice on Crash Bash. The pause menu is invisible. I.e. when you hit start to pause a game only the menu boarder is there. Everything else isn't. You can still scroll up and down the menu and hear the game moving over menu items. So can still quit, restart, etc. if you know where they are.

Couldn't you just download Quake/Quake II on the system it self to play the PC version anyways?

Is Quake 2 available for direct download (not via PS1) and can it be set to use the controller (Xin-Mo)?

Digimon World plays with sound issues, delayed sound and no music.

@dd-indeed So help me out here, the documentation seems to state the file name needs to be SCPH1001.BIN but it seems that by what you're saying, that could be a newer BIOS but just renamed to SCPH1001.BIN? Right now I'm sure my file is the original SCPH1001.BIN one and not a newer one. Any suggestions on which one to try or just go with the newest PSX BIOS I can find and rename it to SCPH1001.BIN?
