Is 4.0.3 even out yet? I know you're bleeding edge when it comes to your builds, but I thought 4.0.2 was the "current" version.
Also, does the "launching" image replace the game art or is it before the game art if you'd choose to display that?

Only the RetroPie-Script. There's no SD image with 4.0.3. You have to update you RetroPie-Setup script and then update your runcommand in order to get the "custom launching image" feature. I detailed these steps in this post.

It won't be displayed if you choose "launch menu art". The conditions to show the custom launching image are the same for showing the traditional dialog infobox ("Launch menu" enabled, "Launch menu art" disabled) AND the existence of thelaunching
file in the proper config directory.The conditions to show the custom launching image are:
- Launch menu: enabled
- existence of the launching.jpg or launching.png file in the proper config directory.
- Launch menu art: disabled OR...
- If "Launch menu art" is enabled, AND there's no emulationstation art for the chosen game.

@obsidianspider
the runcommand was updated for showing the launching art even if the "launch menu art" is enabled AND there's no art for the chosen game. The was updated accordingly. -
Is there anyway this will work even if the game already has box art?

only if "launch menu art" is disabled. I've updated the conditions in the wiki. ;-)

I've just updated the runcommand wiki with instructions on how to setup specific game launching images. It's a cool feature but I think it's a bit subutilized.

Recently BuZz added a really cool feature in runcommand. Now we can choose a custom script in a list and execute it. Pretty handy!
I've updated the wiki with some instructions on how to use it:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Runcommand#runcommand-menu-custom-scriptsBy the way, I've changed my joystick-selection tool to take advantage of this feature and now the user can configure the input joystick for the system that is going to be launched right before launching the game. :-)

@herb_fargus The runcommand page on Docs isn't synchronized with the runcommand wiki.
Is there something I can do to get it updated?
-
@meleu so this new feature adds another option to the run command menu you can invoke by pressing a button while the game is loading? Very cool. I'm not sure what I'd do with it, but it certainly opens up possibilities.
-
@meleu It's updated/triggered manually when @herb_fargus sees fit/ has time to check recent changes etc. Patience.
-
@BuZz it's not about (im)patience, I'm just offering help. :-)
I'm still used to consult the wiki anyway. -
@meleu It's not something anyone else can help with really - It requires ssh access to the server as well as a custom patch for the generation tool due to a bug. It's intentionally a manual process so changes can be reviewed etc.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
