cant get screen to work

i cant get a 5" HDMI LCD (B) waveshare screen i just bought to work with my retropie could anyone help?
Pi Model: 3b
RetroPie Version Used: 4.1
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: wireless keyboard+mouse, fake xbox 360 controler (both working fine as i have used them in games)
Controller used:xbox 360
Error messages received: none
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant): i dont know what this is
Guide used: i have tried verious gueds not compleateng any as there has been things not there such as settings. i have also been trying to figure it out myselfe

@Brigane yes but mine is different as i only have a HDMI, power and touch screen ports.

@Cooleoe6 How about some more info about your problem? Does the screen boot or not? Have you written this in the /boot/config.txt file?

@Brigane i have done the first 2 but there is no HDMI_cvt

@Brigane the best ive managed to do was get the top left corner of the screen to show up but even then there was black bars on the screen to

@Cooleoe6 you have to add "HDMI_cvt" to the config yourself, it's not there by default :)
