RPi B doesn't boot into controller setup

Hello,

I am quite new to Raspberry Pi because I gave up on it a long time ago since I couldn't get anything to work. I have the original Raspberry Pi B (I think it is considered RPi 1) with a PNY 16GB class 6 SD card.

I followed the First Installation guide to download and install RetroPie onto the SD card but when I plug it into my RPi and start it up I never get to the controller setup. It takes a few minutes and some things get the green OK while other don't work. At the end I get the joystick logo spelled out with characters along with information like uptime, memory, IP address, and temperature. The very last line says:

pi@retropie:~$ _

To me that looks like it is waiting for input from me, but the guide makes it seem like it should go directly into controller setup. I do have one Logitech Gamepad F310 controller plugged in but that is it.

Searching this forum, most people who didn't get to the controller screen had the wrong version downloaded but I downloaded the RPi 0/1 version of RetroPie. I believe I have version 4.1 of RetroPie because I just downloaded it today.

Any advice?

@kassult Power supply? Bad image? What is the name of the image exactly?

I'm using a droid turbo power supply (5V, 1.6A) and the image is named retropie-4.1-rpi1_zero.img. It's 1.89 GB. I tried reflashing it onto the SD card a few times and restarting the RPi a few times as well. No luck.

@kassult sounds like a bad sd card then. Try booting without the controller in. Pi model B requires 1.2A are you sure it's not a B+? In which case you don't have enough power to boot. Also, is the sd card compatible? Is it a genuine card and not a fake? Isn't that droid a phone charger? If so I'd be trying a proper power supply and check the cable length it may not be of sufficient quality to deliver power. Bottom line is Bad Pi, bad card or bad psu.

Thank you for all the info. I'll try different power supplies and SD cards. I know I have the original B because it only has 2 USB ports.
I also used this SD card a while back when I used Raspbian. I often had similar issues though but I did have it working after a while.
I have never used this specific power supply but I have always used phone chargers for power supplies. I thought that was normal. If I remember correctly the B only needs 0.5A so I figured I was fine.

Once again, thanks for the help. I'll update this post if I ever get it working and hopefully I will understand where I went wrong.

It needs more than twice that - 1.2 A
