Retropie v4.1.8 / Attract Mode v0.5 - AdvanceMame and other issues HELP PLEASE

Hello all!

I've scoured the internet, retropie wiki, attract mode wiki, etc. I've managed to get 95% of rey's 128 working on my rpi3. I just have a few questions that I'm curious if y'all have answers to or possibly having the same issues as me. Thank you in advance.

Currently running:

Raspberry Pi 3B
Retropie v4.1.8
Attract Mode v0.5 build 23-08-2016
iBuffalo SNES USB controller
2.5A power supply (looks like this: a.co/3B5zrUd)

Questions:

advmame .94: I am able to open the games but cannot use my buffalo snes usb controller to play the games. I have tried editing the key mapping when you hit tab through emulation station and attract mode. I've tried manually via SSH to /opt/retropie/configs/mame-advmame/advmame-0.94.0.rc. I successfully changed only input_map[ui_cancel] joystick_button[0,6] joystick_button[0,7] to exit the game when pressing start/select. Advmame only wants to work with a full keyboard and not my snes controller. If you have yours working, may i see your advmame-0.94.0.rc file?
In attract mode when I select the exit attract mode option in the displays wheel, I am taken to the command line screen. I have tried: start AM>press TAB>General>Exit Command: sudo poweroff and sudo shutdown. Both of which do nothing besides taking me to the command line screen. Anyone have a working command that will safely exit attract mode and shutdown the pi?
If in the event that advmame can't recognize my controller, how do I change to a different mame emulator? Currently all the mame roms are located in /roms/mame-advmame folder. Is it safe to rename the folder to just /mame? Would that give me the option to select a libretto name emulator? Or is it more complicated then that?

I only provided that info because it said to on support request info. Regardless of what image is used, my questions should still be valid. I'm not asking for any illegal information or whatever. Just some help with control mapping and possible shutdown commands. Looks like I'm not getting any help here. Thanks again.

Not really because all 3 questions are about a 3rd party image that nobody knows anything about how it was configured.

@foreverclumsy I'm also trying to get my iBuffalo controller working with advmame - did you ever get a working .rc file?
