MAME ROW #15

My score: 69200.
Thanks @GtBFilms for the Flame thrower tip! :-)The first time I played I didn't realize that you can "choose" which weapon to pickup.
About Vimana: I didn't know it but I found it a nice shooter. I voted for it, but I'm enjoying Aliens too.
-
There's a 1-Up after the big alien midway through the third side-scrolling stage.
100,700

@obsidianspider Do you know what is the advantage of wearing that metal thing? I thought I won't take damage but I took... Got 96k but I'll try again not wearing that thing. I prefer my flame thrower...
-
@meleu The mech suit thing? I'm not sure if you can play without getting in it, I've not been able to get that far again in my subsequent play throughs, but I'll be sure to try again tomorrow. I think it was part of the movie, but I've not seen it.

There's no better time than the present. As far as Sci-Fi/Action movies go, it's second only to 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day'.

I've got 119600. Died on what I believe is the third boss.
-
@meleu I think I beat the whole game, only got 110,000 for beating the final? boss
-
Nice work! But did you nuke the entire site from orbit?
-
@mediamogul I think I'll break my cabinet if I have to play through again
-
@lilbud Did you beat the game with only one credit?! It's pretty impressive. But if you use continues, I think the score restarts after a continue.
-
@meleu One credit? HAHAHAHAHA
it probably took 20 credits to beat.

I wonder if anyone made a utility to count up how much money you would have spent if you'd been inserting coins for every time you pressed Select in MAME. This game alone would have been quite an investment at the arcade.
-
When I was a kid, I never brought more than four or five dollars to the arcade. There were times that I wanted that money to go as far as possible and i would work my way from one game to another until I was broke. Then, there were other times that I wanted to use that money to complete a beatable game. Although I remember being shut out from time to time, I also recall beating a fair amount of games that way. I especially liked completing beat 'em ups Like 'X-Men' and 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles' because you could transfer the skills you learned from one game to another, significantly reducing the amount of money it took to succeed each time.
-
@mediamogul the only games I ever completed in the arcades were Vigilante (they were testing it and had loaded it up with lots of free credits), Golden Axe (with a lot of credits) and Double Dragon (lot of credits, 2 player with the inspired fight against each other at the end) and Robocop, which is basically a test of memory, I could eventually complete that on a single credit, so if I wanted to make my money last, I'd play that.
Just waiting patiently for for that one to come up in the MAME ROW!
Oh yeah and Altered Beast, which is a just a credit gobbling slog to the end.
-
To be honest, I've never been to a real arcade. But, if I did, I'd be broke right now. Especially after the likes of Aliens and Phoenix.

Just kidding! Now my turn to tell my arcade story. My father forbade me to go to arcades and I had to go without his consent. I was the guy who never use continues, I started from the beggining just to maximize the time playing. :-)

That's terrible. Although, it must have been a thrill to go when you were able.
-
@meleu When I saw first Arcade games ... Arcades did not even exist. You could find single games at Bars.
Space invaders, Arkanoid, Scramble, Vanguard, Cosmic Guerilla... these were the first I played.
:-))
