Xin-Mo No Hotkey Player 2 Menu & Play

Hey everyone. Seems like this topic has been beaten to death but I can't find the exact answer I'm looking for.
I've managed to setup my Xin-mo using the usb quirks line & if I run the retropie controller configuration, everything works properly for 1p & 2p. The problem I am having is when I remove the hotkey and try to have the following buttons:
Exit (1p btn 8)
Options (1p btn 9)
Menu (2p btn 10)
Play (2p btn 11)When I hit tab into Mame and try to configure some of the input buttons, the 2p buttons will not register. Am I missing something obvious?
