Doom / Doom 2 PSX soundtrack
-
I found 2 packs:
- PSX Doom soundtrack
- PSX Final Doom soundtrack
Looking at the list here https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Doom#music
and the source here https://github.com/libretro/libretro-prboom/blob/master/src/m_misc.c#L605.. it strikes me that the two lists above are very different. It starts out ok, but then it gets very weird, like the lists do not match. Around e2m6 and forward. And in he source it says that e2m9 and e3m1 uses the same mp3-file, but it says otherwise in the wiki list..
On top of that, the end of the wiki list mentions filenames that does not appear to exist in my two soundtrack packs :S
Am i missing something important, or maybe somebody can explain this in newbie terms to me? :)
Thanks

Hmm, it seems like the source has several kinks regarding music filenames that needs to be sorted out.... maybe it will be fixed in the future crossing my fingers

@Xyb0t I would be very interested in coming to some definitive conclusion for the music packs on doom. no doubt the wiki has room for improvement.
What have you tested thus far?

I think i'll wait and see if the source will be updated. That would greatly increase the joy of messing about with it :D From the link i posted above, it seems like the midi-related music also is missing some attention. Like, tracks, levels and filenames is not paired correctly.I really like the PSX soundtrack, so eventually i will dive into it. And i'll make sure to report here if i make any progress!

Hey guys. I know this is a pretty old post, but I was wondering if anybody figured out the way to name PSX music yet. I have both the PSX and MIDI sets, and I seemed to be able to get the MIDI set in there without much of a problem. My issue comes in the fact that any PSX set that I've obtained doesn't have as many music files, and though I've scoured the internet I haven't found any documentation anywhere about what songs should be renamed to what. I never actually played the PSX version before, so I have nothing to compare it to. I only wanted to make a separate launch instance for Doom and Doom II with it because I hear how great the soundtrack actually was and I thought it would be cool to have both of them.
As for this...
Yes, I had this exact issue as well. I know the copies of midi files I have found for both Doom II and TNT: Evilution have the same file names despite being different songs, and I too can't figure out how to play both. Could TNT: Evilution files be renamed and used in PrBoom? It doesn't seem like it was made to play anything but Doom and Doom II music, because otherwise I would think there would be specific file names for the TNT mp3s, but that doesn't look to be the case. I know this lists the file names that will be played: https://github.com/libretro/libretro-prboom/blob/master/src/m_misc.c#L605 but I'm not sure if it can be altered to play TNT music files.
My fix was pretty simple. I have a different folder for all 4 Doom titles (Doom, Doom II, Plutonia and Evilution). Doom II and Evilution both use the same music, so I just copied the music into each folder (I could have just had both of them in the same folder and used the same music for both of them, but not really worried about saving that small amount of space).
This way I had a separate folder for Plutonia for the identically named files with different music separated.
Then I have 4 launch .sh scripts in the
ports
folder that will launch whichever game I want with the proper Roland music. If anybody knows where you can find information on getting the PSX music set up correctly, please let me know. :)

@used2berx here is the full music set for doom 1 and 2 which I extracted from the psx wads. The tracks are named for prboom and they are named correctly except for club doom and the unique title screens for psx doom. Copy the mp3's across to your /roms/ports/doom directory Enjoy.

@mitu I had downloaded them directly for free from aubry hodges (the composer) website when i got them. Now it appears he charges $12 for the psx doom soundtrack and $18 for the doom 64 soundtrack. He has 20 different soundtracks available on his site for various games he composed music for.
