8bitdo Zero gamepad setup
-
Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong here?
-
Have updated the Retropie setup script.
-
8bitdo Zero gamepad is working fine with other devices eg iPad
-
running Retropie 4.x on Raspberry Pi 3
-
have cleared settings on gamepad
-
I switch it on with Start+R. It flashes in the single-flash pattern (Android/Windows)
-
I go into Retropie setup > Configuration/Tools > 004 bluetooth
-
I hit Register and Connect to Bluetooth Device and that's it. Nothing happens forever.
(I've also tried other start methods with the pad - just Start, Start+A etc)
-
-
As far as i know the 8bitdo Zero gamepad is lacking the on board flashchip that Nes30,Sfc/snes30,Nes30 pro has.
But try these options and see if it might solve your problem.
- Reset the controller configuration by exiting EmulationStation pressing F4. Type
sudo /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh
Reset EmulationStation controll configuration.
-
Unpair your 8bitdo controller in the BT setup.
-
Redo the controller configuration in BT Setup.
Make sure the hack option is turned "off" and that you power on the controller with start only.
After you are done redo the controller configuration in EmulationStation (restart first)
sudo reboot

Focus on just hitting Start to turn it on. I'm pretty positive I had my Zero running on a [Pi] Zero (ironic, don't ya think? lol) with a Bluetooth dongle. I didn't hold any button when turning it on - that may be the difference between getting this to work. Here's the different startup modes.
If I remember tonight I can try this again (think I still have the bluetooth dongle floating around).

@Dochartaigh Oh, it needs a Bluetooth dongle? I thought the RP3 had Bluetooth built in.

Pi 3 does have bluetooth. I was just saying I thought it worked on my Pi Zero which doesn't have bluetooth (thus needing a dongle). I found my dongle, but can't find that tiny Zero to test unfortunately.
