Adding a new controller!

I've gone in and changed the setting in RetroArch to save when I exit
My intuition says that this is exactly the cause of your problem. But we can't help you with intuition...
Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

My apologies, but this was occurring even before I went in and changed the setting in RetroArch. I'm using:
Pi 3
Power Supply used: (If using a Pi)
RetroPie Version 4.1
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected:Retrolink NES controller (which was used upon initial installation) iBuffalo SNES controller, PS4 controller, retrolink N64 controller (all are recognized, but none work in game)
Error messages received: Specific device is not configured (even though I have configured it)
I just joined today, I really want to use this and I'm a noob so make fun all of me all you want, but I can't quite understand why none of the controllers that are being recognized and configuring are saying that they aren't configured once I start a game, only the controller I used upon the initial power up of it. -
@kage916 I don't want to make fun of you, sorry if I sounded like that. Also the recommendation to read the "read-this-first" post can sound a bit stern, but we are very friendly here. We only want to improve the forum quality. ;-)
Maybe you didn't notice/give attention, but the "read-this-first" post also says "Search this forum to see if your question has already been answered.", and your issue was asked several times here. You can check it right now just entering "new controller not configured retroarch" in the forum's search engine.
Example: I remember that @ufa had the same issue and seems to have it solved in this thread: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/4040/new-controller-issue-do-not-work-in-game
-
@meleu No big deal, at least you're trying to help. I'm finding a lot more people have posted that they're having the same issue, but sounds like they aren't getting a solution to their issue. I wish someone could post like a YouTube walkthrough video of what to do. I'm not understanding why it only works with the controller that was first configured from the start but none of the new ones, even though configured, are working in Roms.

The searching terms I suggested you took me to this thread, which took me to this YouTube video:
Believe in the forum's search engine. Can you see that being
annoyingrigorous with the forum quality inevitably makes the quality of the forum good? :-) -
@meleu This is 3.3, I have 4.1, and do not have an option that says edit retropie/retroarch configurations. Where do I change this in 4.1?
-
@kage916 this option isn't on the emulationstation RetroPie menu, but you can access it via RetroPie-Setup. More info here:

@meleu I promise you, I am not an idiot. I'm sure it looks like I am one, but I am literally doing everything in these tutorials and getting nowhere. I even went in and set that specific controller under Choose joypad order, and it still is saying it is not configured, I am so upset right now it's unreal. I would facetime with someone if they'd let me to get this crap solved!
-
@meleu If we could communicate through email instead of here on the forum maybe that's a better idea for everyone. I hate to keep posting stuff, but I'm seriously at a crossroads where I have done literally everything that has been posted or shown in a video and am getting nowhere.
-
@kage916 I had same problem I set it up and go to play a game and wouldn't work then I went back to the first screen press start and bring up the menu and configure input again and it worked so hope this works for you
-
@Padge35 That did not work for me. I don't know what is going on. I've followed every tutorial and thread on here and nothing it working.
-
@kage916 turn the system off and unplug controller turn system back on and once loaded insert controller again and retry the last step I said going to main menu configure input
-
@Padge35 Once I turn the system off, insert the controller, configure it, and once I open a game, it still says it isn't configured. I have literally tried it all
-
@kage916 what controller you using? I've had problems allday trying to get it to work and now finally got it working by doing the steps I said
-
@Padge35 it's an iBuffalo SNES controller. It detects it, I can configure it, and once I start up a SNES rom, or any rom for that matter, in yellow in the bottom corner it tells me it is not configured.
-
@kage916 did you put controller back in when u turned it off. All after u powered it back up like I said?
-
@kage916 I'm using ps3 control but if it recognises it like u said it should be ok.
-
@Padge35 The only controller that works is the one that I used when I launched retropie for the very first time, any other controllers do not work
-
@Padge35 Yes I did, I have tried so many different things and none of them ever end up with it staying configured once I launch a rom
-
@kage916 sorry bruv I don't know what else to tell you.
