@paradadf Yeah I noticed but there is a gamelist.xml specific for each "emulator"/"EmulationStation Entry" . And I'm asking specifically for the retropie's entry gamelist.xml <=> the one repertoring retropie-setup, raspiconfig, etc etc .We should all have this one in common at least (using retropie 4.1.15 btw, will edit my post to add this). This is the only one who got corrupted for some reason.

@Aryetis sorry, I have no idea what your are talking about. I'm into the scraping stuff, but I don't use retropie.

@Aryetis run sudo ~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh from terminal and reinstall the menu from packages -> core -> retropiemenu or so

@BuZz That's the first thing I did, sadly it didn't fix anything. Moreover there was a bunch of errors during the reinstallation process. Nothing showing up in /var/logs/* but I managed to catch a glimpse at a bunch of those flashing lines and it was something about "empty directories"

@BuZz Any other ideas ? Does retropie_setup.sh have logs or do I have to keep track of it (console outoutput in the background) myself to track down what seems to be a bug in the reinstallation process ?

@Aryetis it makes logs in RetroPie-Setup/logs/

@BuZz Thanks for the help, sadly it didn't contain any important information .... the log was just complaining that gamelist.xml (the file I'm trying to rebuild) is empty .... Here's the log : http://pastebin.com/ZkzhxRYR

I know this is an old topic, but I had the same issue recently. The way it got fixed was by going into retropie_setup.sh as suggested above and uninstalling the retropie menu and immediately reinstalling it. The gamelist.xml was rewritten and everything world great.

@retronoobie3000 I can confirm this to work. I had my retropie gamelist.xml get wiped somehow and attempted to update the package via RetroPie-Setup. A bunch of errors showed that the xml was empty. I then removed and reinstalled the menu package and that repopulated my xml file just fine. Everything is working now.
