The case was 3D printed by a friend. Thereβs some controversy over the design and it was pulled from Thingiverse.
Why? Didn't look like anything I remember. Resemble an old handheld too much or something?
-
@classicgmr Something like that
-
@obsidianspider soooo nice! I canβt wait to see the icon for that in your signature. π
-
@obsidianspider that is awesome! I still have my space invaders one. Not sure what happened to my ms pacman one though.

They messed up! They had one job to do and they bring us this ugly abomination.
The game selection sucks too. Who needs 4-5 different KOF games? Golf? Football Frenzy? Wtf?And look at that horrible design? The color selection is a nightmare to look at. Even obsidianspider could do a far better job.
If they do a mini arcade design then at least use the red MVS as template. Or they could have simply build a mini AES console.
-
@flyingtomahawk I partly agree with you. Note, there will be an international version available with blue coloring and 14 different games. The site I link is German, but that does not matter. You can see full list of international and regular version: https://www.gamestar.de/artikel/neo-geo-mini-retro-konsole-erscheint-im-sommer-in-japan-spiele-lineup-bekannt,3330796.html

@flyingtomahawk Thanks? I think?
I'm not sure how they came up with the cabinet design, but the KOF games are what most people think of when they think Neo Geo, well, that and Metal Slug.
-
Don't be so modest you would build a far better mini cabinet than they did. And they had all the SNK resources we could not get our hands on.
-
Interesting, die Deutschen sagen, 600gr weight the US boys say 390gr. With battery and without battery?
-
@flyingtomahawk The cabinet I'm working on was really designed by others and I am just building it, but I am liking how it's turning out.
I still have many unfinished projects in the works along with some other things in the mail that will be of interest to this thread, but they're not here yet. ;) -
That looks so tacky, they've reduced a stylish console/arcade machine to a toddler toy. Maybe it's a design that will grow on me and perhaps it looks better in person but I'm not convinced so far.
The international version does look slightly better but I still don't understand why they didn't just follow the nes/snes classic model and do a miniature version of the AES console. To differentiate it further they could even have a functioning cartridge slot with mini cartridges and they could have sold extra game packs - that would be really popular with collectors.
Hopefully the emulation is good this time though as I don't think people will be pleased if it has the problems of the NeoGeo X.

My copy of Ghouls N Ghosts for Genesis arrived today. It's in pretty decent shape, but the unfortunate thing is that this stinks like cigarettes. Any tips for removing a smoke smell?

I have always heard unscented dryer sheets and placing the items in a bag with them. Apparently it should absorb the smell. Can't say I've tried it myself, however. This way you aren't combating smell vs. smell.
A quick google search regarding this method says it's slow, typically effective, and doesn't risk leaving a residue or anything on the items which is a plus.
-
@obsidianspider Let air outside overnight
-
@obsidianspider You can put it in water... ok, that was apparently a troll attempt.
I'm curious too. -
@flyingtomahawk i like the look of the japanese one. It looks a lot like the neo candy machine that it is replicating. Personally im glad its not the red u.s. look
-
@obsidianspider i got a sweet collection of ps1 games from somebody once and had to air them out because they all smelled like really strong cat piss.

That was exactly my first thought. Kinda looks like those fake, oversized mobile phone toys for 2-3 years old kids.
I am really glad I have my Pi with your NeoGeo X theme on it. Just wish they would sell a mini AES NeoGeo shell somewhere.
I know the China boys sell the NeoGeo X dock for 50 which is a bit expensive IMO.Well I guess we wait and see then. Wonder how much the price is gonna go up for this NeoGeo mini once sold out.

The seller is a shady mofo, but here is one that was 3D printed on a resin printer.

Its funny how so many of the people who have antique items to sell are also hard core smokers and don't notice how the smell has permeated the item.
Solution,
Take up smoking and soon you won't notice it either.Okay so real solution...
Activated Charcoal. You can get it in the fish section of a pet store.The case and the book can just be buried in it for a day or so when wiped down to get any Charcoal dust off. The cartridge... Maybe seal the end first and then do the same?
Or if you are fine with vacuuming and wiping down the pins with a Qtip you could just do the same thing and bury it in the Activated Charcoal for a day or so.
